Travis Kelceâs NFL future has become the subject of intense speculation after a close friend appeared to let slip what many fans believe is a major career announcement.
Just weeks after marrying Taylor Swift in a star-studded ceremony at New Yorkâs Madison Square Garden, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is turning his attention back to football. But before the 2026 season has even begun, a social media post from one of his longtime training partners has left fans wondering whether this could be Travisâ final year in the NFL.
âThe last danceâ
Travis, 36, has been training with longtime performance coach Andrew Spruill alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Cris Carter ahead of the Chiefsâ return to training camp.
Sharing a photo with the three-time Super Bowl champion, Cris wrote: âAndrew and I started with Travis before his rookie year in the NFL.
âKnow the GOAT is preparing for THE LAST DANCE. Next stop Canton/HOF.â
The post immediately sparked debate among fans, many of whom questioned whether Cris had accidentally revealed Travisâ retirement plans before the player had the chance to announce them himself.
One fan commented: âThese guys have no respect or loyalty to Travis at all theyâre just trying to get clout.â
Another wrote: âSo messy and inappropriate in my opinion for him to write that. Itâs NO ONEâS right to say that but Travisâ.â
A third added: âCan Travis be allowed to announce his own retirement, please? Everything about him makes headlines. Heâs always said he doesnât want a farewell tour or the focus to be on him during the season. Travis has earned the right to announce this himself when he sees fit.â
Focused on one more season
Travis has yet to comment publicly on Crisâ remarks. Retirement speculation has surrounded the Chiefs star for months. Many expected him to walk away at the end of last season after Kansas Cityâs disappointing campaign, particularly following quarterback Patrick Mahomesâ ACL injury.
Instead, Travis opted to return, reportedly feeling he didnât want to end his legendary career on a disappointing note. He also remained one of the Chiefsâ standout performers despite the teamâs struggles and signed a one-year contract extension worth around $12 million earlier this year.
A whirlwind summer
The offseason has already been one to remember for Travis. On July 3, he married Taylor Swift in an elaborate ceremony at Madison Square Garden, with the couple keeping almost every detail of the celebration under wraps. Guests have remained tight-lipped about the event, and neither Kelce nor Taylor has shared any official wedding photographs, adding to the mystery surrounding one of the yearâs most talked-about celebrity weddings.
Now, attention quickly turns back to football. Chiefs rookies are due to report to training camp this week, with Kelce expected to join veteran teammates shortly afterwards. Kansas City opens its season against the Denver Broncos on September 14, while Mahomes is expected to be fully recovered from knee surgery in time for kickoff.
