New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing the pervasive rumor that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are getting married at the iconic Madison Square Garden head on â well, sorta.
âYou know, what I am here to say is that whoever is getting married in New York City, I think itâs hard to beat the City Clerkâs Office but many will try and soon there will be more news,â Mamdani, 34, told ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl in a preview clip of an upcoming interview for ABCâs This Week shared on Saturday, June 27.
âIs somebody getting married at Madison Square Garden on July 3rd?â Karl persisted. âSomebody famous?â
After Swift, 36, and Kelce, also 36, got engaged in August 2025, rumors have swirled regarding their impending nuptials â everything from who has received an invite to the wedding venue to the date and time.
Recently, new clues have emerged to support the claim that the pair plan to say âI doâ at Madison Square Garden. The New York Times reported on Wednesday, June 24, that a permit was filed with New York City to close the streets around the venue from July 2 to midday July 4 for an event on July 3, according to three people who have knowledge of the matter.
âAre you hearing that?â Mamdani replied to Karl, refusing to answer the question at all. âI think theyâre calling me now.â
A source exclusively told Us Weekly on Saturday that not even the wedding guests know exactly where the pairâs star-studded nuptials will take place.
âTaylor and Travis told guests to be in NYC,â the insider explained. âNo other location was provided.â All the guests know, according to the source, is that invitees need to be in New York City on Thursday, July 2, and Friday, July 3.
âTheyâre putting their guests on hold for a couple days,â the source added. âThey are spending a lot of money â in the millions.â
Another source has confirmed to Us that the pairâs nuptials will, in fact, take place inside Madison Square Garden.
Other insiders have shared exclusive details regarding the pairâs wedding planning, noting that they initially wanted to say âI doâ in Rhode Island but had to pivot due to safety concerns.
âTaylor and Travis really wanted their wedding in Rhode Island, and June 13 was the date, but security wouldnât have worked because it could get out of hand with that kind of scale of an event,â an insider revealed on Saturday. âOcean House [in Westerly] was planned at one point, and then plans changed to New York.â
The source added, âRhode Island wasnât great because the nature of the access and the perimeters were too difficult to secure. So the main issue with Rhode Island ended up being security.â
