Lena Dunham tied the knot in 2021 with Luis Felber, only months after the pair were set up on a blind date. But despite Lena being one of the most famous and divisive millennial celebrities, it turns out Luis, a musician from London, had no idea who Lena was or what she did.
Lena, whose new memoir Famesick has been a huge success, was speaking on Wednesday, May 20, during a Q&A in Los Angeles with Rita Wilson, when she revealed that on their first date, he told her that he believed her to be a “curve model,” something she called “lovely’.
“The thing that was so amazing about meeting him, he’d never seen Girls,” said Lena, sharing that a mutual friend had messaged Luis to ask him if he wanted to go to dinner with “this person,” sending him a picture of Lena.
On their first date, he told her: “‘I thought you might be a curve model,’ and I went, “That is the loveliest thing I’ve ever heard.'”
Lena then joked she would call Ashley Graham, one of the most famous plus-size models in the industry, to “see what she thinks I’ve got to do”.
The 40-year-old found fame in the early 2010s in the HBO series Girls, which she created, wrote, and starred in. Her character, Hannah, claimed she could be the “voice of a generation,” and the label was then attached to Lena as well.
Although she is an eight-time Emmy nominee and one of the most successful female showrunners of the last decade, attention has often shifted in negative ways about her life, appearance, and relationships.
Lena dated Jack Antonoff for years and was the subject of several of Taylor Swift‘s songs, including “You Are In Love,” as the three were incredibly close.
Jack and Lena ended their romance in 2018, but Taylor remained close with both, acting as a bridesmaid for Lena and Luis at their London wedding.
The photos, published by Vogue, revealed Lena turned heads in three incredible bridal dresses: a mini A-line dress, a long, satin gown with split sleeves and jewel detailing, and an A-line white silk dress complete with a portrait painting from their wedding invitation, all by Christopher Kane.
The bridesmaids also wore custom metallic silver dresses in various styles by Christopher Kane for the ceremony, as well as beautiful frocks by The Vampire’s Wife for the pre-wedding.
In recent years, Lena began writing books and created the 2025 Netflix series Too Much, loosely based on her own life, and admitting that the merciless dissection of her body was part of her reasoning for stepping behind the camera.
She has also been open about her fluctuating body size due to personal health conditions; Lena had been diagnosed with endometriosis, undergoing a total hysterectomy at the age of 31 after decades of pain, as well as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
