Billy Ray Cyrus detailed his 2024 near-fatal sepsis battle and how his daughter Noah Cyrus saved him.
âI got really sick and almost died,â the âOld Town Roadâ crooner, 64, told People in an interview published Wednesday.
âAs I was trying to stay alive at times, they sent me home from the hospital, and Iâd be there with Tommy Jack,â he said, referring to his rescue dog. âBut my body was blowing up [with] a toxicity of some type.â
âIf it had erupted, I would have died,â Billy Ray, 64, claimed. âIn the last moment, I had a prayer answered.â
The âHannah Montanaâ alum explained how he would visit a âprayer rockâ multiple times a day, asking God, âPlease. I need a miracle. I need a miracle.â
âLo and behold, they were going to do one last surgery,â he said. âI got to the hospital [and] they said, âMr. Cyrus, itâs gone. Itâs healed.â I had a miracle.â
Billy Ray recalled how the sepsis battle resulted in vocal paralysis, telling the outlet that he couldnât sing or talk.
âI started believing once I had the first miracle,â he said. âI said, âCyrus, you canât talk or sing right now, but believe you can.ââ
The hitmaker recalled leaning into Noahâs 2025 track âDonât Put It All On Me,â which was written by his son Braison Cyrus.
âI just loved it so much,â Billy Ray said. âAnd I do credit that particular song [for] saving me.â
Elsewhere in the interview, he shared that he was âaddictedâ to the 26-year-oldâs song and would listen to it all day for a âlittle bit of peace.â
The Disney alum also credited Braisonâs 5-year-old son, Bear, for encouraging him throughout his recovery.
âIn this very broken moment of my life, my little grandson Bear looked at me and said, âTry again,ââ Billy Ray recalled. âAnd up until that moment, he had never spoken to me at all. I wasnât even sure if he knew my name.â
âI thought, âHeâs telling you something.â Is it about love? Music? Somehow, I got to try again at both. So Iâm learning to try again,â he said.
Billy Rayâs forthcoming album, âThe Hill,â is set for release on June 16.
Billy Ray shares Noah and Braison, along with daughter Miley Cyrus, with his ex-wife, Tish Cyrus. The exes were married from 1993 to 2022.
