Viewers are hooked on the new action-thriller, Prisoner, which landed on UK TV screens via Sky on Thursday.
The series, penned by acclaimed writer Matt Charman (Hostage, Bridge of Spies) and directed by BAFTA-winner Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders), follows a principled young prison officer tasked with escorting a dangerous prisoner to court to testify against his elite crime syndicate.
There’s nothing better than a high-stakes, nail-biting police drama. If, like me, you’re looking for a gripping series to fill the gap while you wait for the anticipated seventh season of Line of Duty, Prisoner might just be the answer.
With plenty of twists and turns and a tense shoot-out, this action-packed thriller is perfect for fans of the hit BBC police series.

What have critics said about Prisoner?
The series has received mixed reviews from critics, with The Guardian hailing it as a “lean, Line of Duty-esque police drama”. Meanwhile, The Times wrote in its three-star review: “Falling in the Line of Duty wheelhouse, it works, partly thanks to the committed performances from Izuka Hoyle and Tahar Rahim.”
Elsewhere, The Telegraph described the series as “more like a retirement project than prime-time TV” in its two-star review.
What is Prisoner about?
The story follows Amber (Izuka Hoyle), a principled young prison transport officer tasked with taking Tibor (Tahar Rahim), a trained killer and high-value inmate, to court to testify against his elite crime syndicate.
The synopsis continues: “When their convoy is brutally ambushed, she’s forced to put her life in his hands. As the sole survivors, handcuffed and on the run, they must race to reach their destination alive and on time.
“Along the way, their uneasy alliance is tested as the syndicate closes in. Trust becomes a weapon and their shackled survival a moral dilemma, forcing Amber to confront how far she’ll go to protect what matters most.”
