And just like that, Jason Lewis is an author.
The âSex and the Cityâ alum, 54, revealed he moved to Costa Rica and wrote a nine-book fantasy series, a week after emerging on Instagram for the first time in three years.
During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter Thursday, Lewis revealed he spent his time in Central America surfing, learning Spanish and waking up â sometimes at 4 a.m. â to work on his trilogies.
âI do my thing and walk the beach or run the beach if the surf isnât good yet and then have my coffee and settle in and get to the desk and have a session,â he detailed.
After breakfast he heads back to his desk and tries to âget anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 words on the page a day.â
The books are all âset in the same world in different eras,â with the âSex and the City 2â star releasing the seventh book first.
âI chose to start at the end,â Lewis told the outlet, stating that his novels land under the âepic fantasyâ genre.
The actor shared that his return to social media was at the behest of his representation, but he doesnât want âto get lost in the idea of performative posting.â
âI very much like to try and create a community,â Lewis expressed, âand not just be in the broadcast of, âHey, check me out. Arenât I awesome?ââ
However, the writer knows he has to grow an audience that will take interest in his books, so he âput a lot of thoughtâ into his first post back.
On May 21, Lewis uploaded a video of himself walking on the beach to the social media platform.
He cryptically explained to his followers why it âwas timeâ to finally return to the app.
âI went quiet,â Lewis admitted. âNot because I have nothing to say, but because I had something to do.â
âThe kind of creative work that doesnât leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that. Itâs the kind of work that needs to find its people, though.â
At the time, Lewis didnât key his fans into his writing, but did say the project was âfar enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what Iâve been doing.â
The former model captioned his post, âAfter three years, it was time.â
Lewis left the public eye after competing on Season 31 of âDancing With the Starsâ in 2022.
He and his dance partner, Peta Murgatroyd, were the first pair eliminated.
Lewis credited his fianceé, actress Liz Godwin, with convincing him to give the ABC show a shot.
âThis year, when the offer came in, my fiancĂ©e asked me to be a little less pigheaded and at least take a look at a show,â he told People at the time.
Lewis first gained popularity for portraying Samantha Jonesâ (Kim Cattrall) young model boyfriend Smith Jerrod on âSex and the Cityâ from 2003 to 2004.
He then starred in the 2008 âSex and the Cityâ movie and its sequel in 2010.
Despite being a fan-favorite, Lewis â whose last acting role was in 2018âs âMidnight, Texasâ â was not asked to return for the showâs reboot series, âAnd Just Like That.â
âAs much as I appreciate the flattery,â Lewis expressed to the Daily Front Row at the time, âthe conversation is about the girls.â
