Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! Including royal fathers Prince WilliamPrince Harry, who will be celebrating the same day but over 5,000 miles apart, each with their own family. Interestingly, Father’s Day is celebrated on the same day in the UK and the US, unlike Mother’s Day, which in the UK falls on the fourth Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday, so the date changes each year. Stateside, they celebrate on the second Sunday of May, which often falls on a different date. But will the royal brothers have similar setups today?
Prince William has three children with his wife Princess Kate: eldest Prince George, 12, daughter Princess Charlotte, 11, and youngest Prince Louis, eight. William’s younger brother has two children: Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. Although Prince William’s children are slightly older, it is likely the kids will be into the same sorts of things – helping with a bespoke breakfast for daddy or handmade cards. But it’s also Prince William’s birthday on the same day, so he’s likely to receive double the presents!
Home comforts
Both William and Harry have been known to hold birthdays and other important events at their own residences, likely due to the privacy that this can provide. Princess Lilibet’s birthday and Valentine’s Day appeared to be marked at the Sussexes’ residence in Montecito and we’ve seen professional birthday images of the Wales children taken within their secluded estates.
The great outdoors
The other alternative, which could be a possibility for both families, would be spending time in the great outdoors. William, Kate and their three children adore spending time outside and have made no secret of their shared love for it. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan have hikes and beaches on their doorstep – the perfect places to explore with their energetic children, should daddy fancy a day out.
Celebrating their own fathers
There’s one clear divergence when it comes to the Father’s Day events: spending time with their own father. Prince William could easily see his dad, King Charles, but for Prince Harry in the US, it will be trickier unless via video call.
Harry coming to the UK
It has been reported that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will all be coming to the UK soon for Harry’s appearance at the Invictus Games in Birmingham. If Charles does get to see his grandchildren after all this time, it will mark the second known meeting of Lilibet since she was born in 2021.
