Erling Haaland is a champion in the sporting sphere – not only is he a coveted striker for Premier League club Manchester City, but he also helped lead Norway through to the 2026 World Cup quarter finals.
However, away from the pitch, less is known about the soccer star’s family life. Erling was born in July 2000 to parents Alf-Inge Haaland and Gry Marita Braut in Leeds, England. It seems the 25-year-old was always destined to be a sportsman, with both his parents involved in the world of athletics.
HELLO! takes a closer look at everything we know about Erling’s parents and two siblings, Gabrielle and Astor.

Erling’s father was a professional footballer himself, having played as both a defender and a defensive midfielder. His career spanned English soccer clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, and Manchester City.
Alf-Inge was initially against his son pursuing a soccer career, and wanted him to play a different sport. “You know, it’s actually funny because his biggest dream was me becoming a professional golfer. That was his biggest dream,” Erling told The Rest is Football podcast.
Away from the playing field, following his divorce from Erling’s mom, Alf-Inge married his second wife, and the couple welcomed two children. Erling has two younger half-sisters.

Erling’s mom was hailed as one of Norway’s top heptathletes in the 1990s and was known as a top-performing track-and-field athlete. In Norway, people take the surname of both the father and the mother. Erling therefore wears “Braut Haaland” on the back of his soccer jersey.
Erling has often credited his mother for his impressive physical attributes, joking that he inherited his pace and athleticism from her.

Erling’s sister, Gabrielle, is a social media sensation, with over 300,000 followers on Instagram. She was born in January 1998, and previously worked as a nursing and care assistant in Norway. According to her LinkedIn profile, she also worked in retail for three years.
Gabrielle married Norwegian businessman and former footballer Jan Gunnar Eide in 2020, and the couple share two children together. Gabrielle is often spotted at the national soccer matches and frequently posts sweet pictures supporting her lookalike brother from the sidelines.
Like Erling, she has striking blonde hair, though she is considerably shorter than him.

Erling’s brother, Astor, maintains a more private profile away from the spotlight. However, he is often spotted supporting his soccer star brother at matches. Astor pursued a career away from sports and studied finance at BI Norwegian Business School.
