Madonna made a surprise appearance during Coachella’s second weekend, joining Sabrina Carpenter during her headline set. Staying true to her pop icon status, Madonna took to the stage on April 17 in a sultry look that perfectly complemented the “Espresso” hitmaker’s style.

The 67-year-old wore a lilac-hued corset that featured a waist-cinching silhouette and intricate lace detailing on the hem. The garment was teamed with matching  lace stockings, lavender long gloves, and knee-high boots. Madonna’s hair was left down in soft waves and her makeup oozed glam, courtesy of a smoky eye and glossy lip.

Sabrina looked equally striking in a white bustier, featuring a sheer lace bodice and delicate tie details at the cups for an added accent. Her blond locks were styled into bouncy curls while her makeup was left radiant with shimmery detailing.

The moment also marks a full-circle return, coming 20 years after Madonna headlined Coachella in 2006. The duo performed renditions of Madonna’s biggest hits including “Vogue” and “Like A Prayer”.

“Wow, thank you,” Madonna said as she was welcomed by applause. “Sabrina, thank you so much for inviting me on your show.”

“No thanks needed, Madonna,” replied Sabrina.

“Well, I have a few things I want to get off my chest. So, 20 years ago today I performed at Coachella. I was in the dance tent, and it was the first time I performed Confessions On The Dance Floor part one in America,” added the Queen of Pop. “It’s a full circle moment, you know? Very meaningful for me.”

She continued: “Let’s try to be together. Let’s try to avoid disagreements. And to that point, the great thing about music is that it brings people together. It’s the one place that people have to put their differences aside, put their [expletive] down and just everybody have a good time together, right? So I am thrilled to be a part of that healing experience.”

Underwear-as-outerwear

The duo’s risqué looks are part of the larger underwear-as-outerwear trend that continues to blur the line between lingerie and evening wear. During Miu Miu’s autumn/winter 2025 runway, bras were layered beneath ribbed knits or seen peeking out from under ruffled silk dresses. Simone Rocha styled fuzzy fur bras with leather jackets and billowing skirts, while Sarah Burton at Givenchy layered delicate bras beneath sheer mesh dresses.

Meanwhile, romantic slip dresses were championed during the spring/summer 2024 shows, with the likes of Coperni, Gucci and Versace all embracing iterations of the whimsical négligée. With delicate mesh, sumptuous silk, intricate lace, and flirtatious hems, the look is defined by classic evening wear with a daring twist.
