The Prince and Princess of Wales have broken tradition with a beautiful and intimate family portrait to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
Prince William and Kate released a gorgeous photograph on the official Kensington Palace social media channels, marking a decade and a half since they tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on 29 April, 2011.
The picture featured the couple and their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, eight, lying on their backs on the grass. The Wales family were all barefoot for the candid photo, taken during their holiday to Cornwall earlier this month by one of their most trusted photographers, Matt Porteous.
“Celebrating 15 years of marriage ❤️,” read the caption, alongside a simple red love heart emoji.
The Princess was holding hands with her youngest son, Louis, while William was sitting next to their beloved cocker spaniel Orla, five, and another dog, believed to be their unnamed puppy, now thought to be a year old.
“We’ve got a little puppy, he’s only eight months,” Kate revealed in February. It’s thought they are marking the celebration on Wednesday privately at home in Forest Lodge in the evening with the children.
Previous celebrations
The couple tends not to hold an elaborate celebration for such milestones, opting instead for a subtle, yet personal post, often with an unseen photograph. This year, they broke with tradition by including the whole family in the photo. Typically, the couple shares a private picture of just them.
In 2025, Prince William and Kate enjoyed a romantic few days away on the Isle of Mull to celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary. The couple seemed more loved-up than ever, later sharing a photograph with their arms around one another as they took in the breathtaking scenery of the mountains and the lake.
The visit was filled with gentle touches and laughter, as the couple forged an ever-closer bond after Kate’s cancer diagnosis in 2024. The previous year, they shared a black-and-white photo from their wedding, which they simply captioned: “13 years ago today!”
In 2023, they delighted royal fans with a picture of themselves out on their bicycles, taken by Matt Porteous, who recently took Prince Louis’s eighth birthday snap, with the caption “12 years” and a red love heart emoji.
A legendary royal wedding
It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since the royal wedding – and since Kate became a member of the royal family. It was certainly a day to remember, especially for the 2,000 guests inside Westminster Abbey and the 22 million TV watchers at home.
On the day, Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton was the bridesmaid in a stunning white gown, while Prince Harry was the best man.
The page boys and flower girls included Margarita Armstrong-Jones, Eliza Lopes, Grace van Cutsem, Lady Louise Windsor, Tom Pettifer and William Lowther-Pinkerton.
Kate’s wedding dress is believed to have been worth £250,000 and was created by the Royal School of Needlework, complete with an ivory satin Victorian-inspired corset. Meanwhile, William looked dapper in a red Irish Guards uniform.
