Jennifer Garner appeared to pay tribute to the importance of motherhood during a low-key outing in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The 13 Going on 30 star, 54, was spotted browsing a bustling Brentwood farmers’ market on Sunday, dressed in a casual outfit that featured a particularly poignant message following the recent death of her former mother-in-law, Chris Anne Boldt.

Jennifer wore a white T-shirt emblazoned with the French phrase “Maman Je T’aime,” which translates to “I love you, Mom.”

She teamed the sentimental top with blue-and-white striped drawstring trousers, white buckle sandals and oversized sunglasses, while her brunette hair was swept back into a practical ponytail.

The actress completed her relaxed look with a large striped tote bag as she picked up fresh produce before heading on her way.

A poignant family tribute

Jennifer’s outing comes less than two months after Ben Affleck’s mother, Chris Anne Boldt, died peacefully in her sleep on June 2 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 83.

According to her obituary, Chris Anne had been told by doctors in December that she had around six months to live. Her final wish was to attend her grandson Samuel’s high school graduation, a milestone she achieved just two days before her passing.

She is survived by sons Ben and Casey Affleck and her five grandchildren: Indiana, Violet, Atticus, Fin and Samuel, who were described in the obituary as “the animating force of her last two decades.”

A bond that endured

Although Jennifer and Ben finalised their divorce in 2018 after 13 years of marriage, the actress remained close to Chris Anne.

The former teacher stayed with Jennifer and her three children—Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14—while Ben underwent treatment for alcohol addiction in 2018, highlighting the strong relationship the women maintained after the marriage ended.

More recently, Chris Anne celebrated Thanksgiving with Jennifer, Ben and their children at the actress’s home, and she was frequently photographed enjoying family outings with her grandchildren over the years.

Ben has previously praised both women for the roles they’ve played in his life.

“You know, I just marvel at my mother who did a great job of raising my brother and I,” he told E! News in 2016.

He also paid tribute to Jennifer’s parenting, adding: “Jen is a superhero mom. She is an amazing mother and I’m really lucky to have her as a partner to co-parent these kids with. We try our best, we put them first and that’s what we do.”

Family always comes first

Jennifer has long spoken about the importance of family and remains incredibly close to her own mother, Patricia Garner, 87.

The pair frequently appear together on Jennifer’s popular Pretend Cooking Show videos, with the actress revealing earlier this year that Patricia has become something of a fan favourite.

“She’s so funny. She loves it. She loves being recognized. She loves when people say hi to her,” Jennifer told People.

“She likes to tell me that her episodes perform the best and are the best ones. And I’m sure she’s right because she’s been right about everything for the last 53 years of my life. Why not the next?”

Jennifer knows all too well the pain of losing a parent after her father, William “Billy Jack” Garner, died in 2024 at the age of 85.
