Jenna Bush Hager got honest on Wednesday about the realities of parenting young kids in a moment that left her Today co-host, Sheinelle Jones, speechless. The 44-year-old shared that her youngest son, six-year-old Hal, had a strange habit that he couldn’t quite shake despite Jenna’s protests.
“He likes to lick my [forehead] like a cat. We have cats,” the mother of three shared on Today with Jenna and Sheinelle. “And not on my mouth, you guys, don’t get all freaky.“
“What would you do if Hal Hager walked in here?” she then queried, before Sheinelle replied: “And licked me?” and joked he was a “little old” to be doing that to anyone. “I need to talk to him, you’re right,” Jenna declared, and as Sheinelle clarified whether Hal liked to lick “like he’s a cub“.
“And you just let him?” she said. “Well, no. I say, ‘Please don’t lick me. Please stop licking me,‘ but sometimes it doesn’t work. He loves me, what can I say?“
Jenna welcomed Hal with Henry Hager in 2019, making him the youngest of her brood. “We are overcome with joy to welcome Henry Harold ‘Hal‘ Hager into this world!” she told People at the time.
“He is named Henry after many on his father’s side, including his dear dad and his paternal grandfather. Harold comes from my maternal grandfather, Pa, who I loved dearly and was unable to keep a son long enough to name.”
She added that she was “enjoying him so much” as he “is the special little boy and feels slightly different…I’m just adoring him constantly.“

Jenna revealed on Today that she was not looking to welcome a fourth child as she had her hands full with three. “I have nothing to announce,” she said on air. “I’m pretty sure I’ve come to terms that three, even though it’s an imperfect number, is the perfect number for our house.“
The TV personality got candid on Today about how difficult it was to be a working mom and deal with the guilt that came with not spending time with her kids.
“I have been working a lot because this has been shooting, and then I’ve had these big interviews and then all the book stuff, and so this morning when I woke up, I thought, ‘Okay, the next couple weeks, the next couple months, it’s like kid-focused,‘” she said.
“I’m like, how can I show up for Poppy in a way – now I’m crying. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.“
“We’re okay,” she assured, before quipping: “It may look like everything’s great, but things are falling apart.”
“We can’t do it all at once, but we’re doing it,” Sheinelle said as she embraced Jenna in an emotional hug. Jenna leads an incredibly busy life, what with the Today show, her smash-hit book club, making cameos in projects like The Devil Wears Prada 2 and producing a series called The Five-Star Weekend.
