Jim Gaffigan has undergone quite the physical transformation since 2023.
The comedian and actor, who celebrated his milestone 60th birthday on July 7, has lost 50 pounds since going on the GLP-1 drug Mounjaro in 2023.
He first went public with his decision in 2024 with his comedy special The Skinny, and has since openly discussed the impact it has had on his health, both physical and mental.
Take a look at the actorâs transformation over the years in photos, plus what heâs said about his medical decision after experiencing weight fluctuations for much of his adult lifeâŠ
Speaking with People, Jim explained his initial hesitance about going the route of a GLP-1. âI had very low expectations because I did know someone that had tried it and they were like, âOh no, I was just nauseous for a week.â And then I thought my true joy of eating would overpower anything.â
Why Jim struggled with his weight from an early age
He noted that heâd dealt with fluctuations in his weight ever since he was in his 20s, and growing older especially impacted his ability to work the pounds off. â[I] would work out twice a day just to be thin so I could eat,â he told People. âAnd then as my metabolism slowed down, it became harder and harder, and then my knees started giving out, and then fatigue set in.â
In his 2024 special, the Unfrosted star joked about being confronted by people for being on Ozempic, then the most well-known weight loss drug. âPeople will come up to me and accuse me of being on an appetite suppressant.â
âTheyâre like, âYouâre on Ozempic. Admit it, youâre on Ozempic.â And Iâm not, alright? Iâm on a different one,â he quipped. âIâm on Mounjaro, which is better, right? Because it sounds like an Italian restaurant.â
Why Jim definitely likes that heâll âlive longerâ
During an appearance on TODAYâs Fourth Hour in 2025, Jim noted that he definitely did see the health benefits pretty quickly. âItâs always good, you know, like, âThe health benefit, Iâll live longer,â blah, blah, blah, but I love it just because I feel better,â he quipped. âIt is great. Itâs beneficial.â
Why Jim has continued using Mounjaro out of paranoia
Speaking with TODAY anchor Craig Melvin on his podcast Glass Half Full in March 2026, Jim confirmed that heâs still actively using Mounjaro. âItâs weird. Itâs just something thatâs in the background of my life at this point where I will take it definitely because Iâm still paranoid that Iâm going to feel nauseous.â
Why Jim doesnât want to just be the âfunny big guyâ
In a conversation with Menâs Health, he shared: âPeople used to always say, âIf you lost weight, youâd lose your whole act.â Itâs so strange, because in some ways, weâre not the funny big guy, are we? Thatâs the role that Iâm supposed to play. But also in some ways, that may be the avenue of our warmth.â
