The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world, and likely the royal family, when they announced their U-turn decision to move back to the UK, six years after their “freedom flight” to the US. All signs are pointing to them settling in the Cotswolds with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – and there’s good news on the horizon for them.
If the royal couple are looking to buy a property in the area, it could be the perfect time to snap one up, as house prices are down year on year, according to Rightmove data. They report: “Overall, the historical sold prices in Cotswolds over the last year were 2% down on the previous year and 2% down on the 2023 peak of £457,314.”
So, buying now while prices are tracking downwards could be a lucrative financial move, if prices increase in the future.
We’re sure the residences taking the fancy of the Sussexes will rack up more than a six figure sum, after all, they are departing from a dazzling $29 million Montecito mansion. At present, reports suggest that they are keeping their stateside base, as well as their holiday home in Portugal.
There’s a chance they could be choosing to rent a countryside abode in England, instead of forking out for purchase. This would give them a chance to trial the move and would also offer an element of privacy as they wouldn’t be flagged up on the Land Registry.
Perks of the Cotswolds
This particular region of the UK could be alluring to the family for many reasons. Firstly, it is away from the obvious media glare of London, providing a little more privacy. Secondly, it would be close to King Charles, who has a country home in Gloucestershire, which is where the family visited during their summer stay.
The couple previously rented a home in Oxfordshire, and loved it. In Harry’s memoir, Spare, he detailed the couple’s time in the UK and in one chapter he touched on the Oxfordshire bolthole they lived in together. “We’d rented a house in Oxfordshire. Just a place to get away now and then [from] the maelstrom,” he explained and while renovations took place at Frogmore, the couple remained there. “While the work was being done, we thought we could move into Oxfordshire full time. We loved it out there. The air fresh, the verdant grounds—plus, no paps.”

The Sussexes exact location once they are settled is likely to remain confidential, as they seek to maintain a level of privacy for their two children.
