Caroline Kennedy broke her silence on daughter Tatiana Schlossberg’s death while speaking at the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award ceremony.
“This year, we even have new family members here. I am so happy to welcome Emma Shriver and Garrett and Mary Moran,” Kennedy, 68, told the audience while referring to her son-in-law’s parents during the event held on Sunday, May 31. “Most of all, we remember Tatiana, who served on the board of this library and represented everything my parents stood for in her beautiful, amazing and too-short life.”
After mentioning her daughter, the crowd gave Kennedy a round of applause. She got choked up but continued with her speech.
Schlossberg died in December 2025 following a battle with cancer. She was 35 years old.
“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” the JFK Library Foundation shared on December 30, 2025, in a statement via Instagram signed by Tatiana’s family, which includes Kennedy; father Edwin Schlossberg; Tatiana’s husband, George Moran; children Edwin and Josephine; siblings Jack and Rose Schlossberg; and sister-in-law Rory Schlossberg.
One month before her death, Tatiana revealed that she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
“I did not — could not — believe that they were talking about me. I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick. I was actually one of the healthiest people I knew,” she wrote in an essay for The New Yorker published in November 2025. “I had a son whom I loved more than anything and a newborn I needed to take care of.”
Tatiana underwent a clinical trial of CAR-T-cell therapy before finding out her cancer was terminal. She was given only one year to live.
On the day of Tatiana’s funeral, which was attended by her loved ones, the JFK Library Foundation shared a never-before-seen photo of Tatiana with her husband and their two kids.
“As we remember Tatiana and celebrate her life, our hearts are with her family and all who loved her,” read the caption.
Last month, Tatiana’s brother, Jack, opened up about how he was still grieving his late sister.
“I don’t think I’ll ever process it,” Jack said in a May interview with Vanity Fair. “The world will never be the same for me, not only since she passed away, but since she was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago.”
