‘Bionic Woman’ Lindsay Wagner still looks incredible as she turns 77

Lindsay Wagner, best known for playing Jaime Sommers in the beloved 1970s series The Bionic Woman, turned 77 on June 22, 2026. With her signature blonde hair and warm, unmistakable smile, Lindsay remains a familiar and much-loved face to generations of television fans.

Her birthday comes during a particularly nostalgic year for the star, as 2026 marks 50 years since The Bionic Woman first arrived on screens.

Earlier this year, Lindsay shared a video marking the show’s golden anniversary, joined by series creator Kenneth Johnson. The actress took a moment to thank the devoted fans who have kept Jaime Sommers’ legacy alive for five decades. 

“Without your support for all these years, we wouldn’t be here,” she said.

Lindsay first stepped into Jaime’s shoes in 1975, appearing opposite Lee Majors in The Six Million Dollar Man. Her character was introduced as Steve Austin’s love interest, a professional tennis player whose life changed after she was seriously injured in a skydiving accident.

Jaime was rebuilt with bionic technology, giving her extraordinary hearing, superhuman strength and the ability to run at breathtaking speed. Although the character was initially written out, audiences responded so passionately to Lindsay’s performance that the storyline was reworked – and Jaime was given her own spin-off series.

The Bionic Woman premiered in January 1976 and ran for three seasons, turning Lindsay into one of the era’s most recognisable stars. Jaime was no ordinary action hero, though. Alongside her high-stakes government missions, the character was written as compassionate, thoughtful and emotionally intelligent.

Speaking about the show’s lasting impact, Lindsay explained that she worked closely with Kenneth to create a heroine who could be powerful and sensitive at the same time.

“Jaime Sommers was – as we portrayed her, and very intentionally so – trying to bring about a balance in human power,” she told AMC. “We were trying to show the balance between masculine and feminine, that it doesn’t have to be just the masculine way to be powerful.”

The approach clearly resonated. Lindsay won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1977, becoming the first actor to win the category for a science-fiction role.

Away from the bionic world, Lindsay has continued to build an impressive career across film, television and voice acting. She appeared on Grey’s Anatomy in 2018 and 2019, and more recently reprised her role as Amelie in the 2025 video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Lindsay is also a proud mother to two sons, Dorian and Alex Kingi, both of whom have followed in their parents’ footsteps by working in the screen industry as actors and stunt performers.
