Will Ferrell debuted a suave new look on Monday as he joined comedienne Molly Shannon in celebrating her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles.
The 58-year-old looked dapper in a gray pinstripe suit paired with a maroon tie and black dress shoes at the event, and surprised onlookers by wearing black-rimmed glasses as he made a speech in honor of his friend. He was last seen wearing them back in May 2025 at a Netflix event.
Will has rocked his signature look of curly hair and an easy smile since the very beginning of his career, and his glasses were a welcome addition to the suave outfit on Monday.
They perfectly framed his face while he delivered the heartwarming and humorous speech, which referenced Molly’s iconic Saturday Night Live character that she debuted on the show while they worked together in the ’90s.
Molly performed the first sketch in character as Mary Katherine Gallagher, a Catholic schoolgirl, in October 1995, and Will reflected on watching the crowd’s reaction to her work after SNL had undergone a major cast overhaul.
“No one knows us, or if we’re any good, or if anyone even likes the show anymore,” Will said in his speech. “It’s coming out of a low ebb, ‘Saturday Night Dead’ were some of the headlines, and we’re just out there throwing things up to see what’s going to happen.”
“But that night is the first time we get to see Mary Katherine Gallagher,” he continued. “At dress rehearsal, I’m in the beginning of the sketch, and I had to run to do a quick change, and as I was changing, I’m hearing Molly perform the character, and I’m feeling the stands shake with laughter.”
“To the point that I thought, Oh my god, I haven’t heard laughter like this so far in the three shows we’ve done. And it was such an emotional moment, because I remember thinking, We’re going to be okay. Molly has saved us – at least we have one funny character,” he recalled.
Will also starred in the 1999 film Superstar with Molly, which centered around Mary Katherine Gallagher. “I was thankful to be a little part of that legendary character,” he said.
“What was so great about Mary Katherine is that it was such a trademark of what you do. The character was funny, real, dark in moments, an outsider who dreamed, which is what you bring to so much of your work. It was a moment I’ll never forget. It literally was a catalyst for us to continue on, and it was a catalyst for you.”
The actor added that Molly “saved” SNL with her incredible work. “You really are a superstar,” he concluded. Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton also paid tribute to Molly on her special day with a touching speech about the star’s incredible parenting and influence on her own child, Yoby.
