Sara Gore has shared an emotional and deeply personal update with viewers, revealing live on-air that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The beloved NBC New York presenter, 49, became visibly emotional as she addressed her audience during the Thursday, April 30 episode of New York Live, explaining that she will be stepping away from her hosting duties to undergo treatment and surgery.

“It just felt right to tell you myself, I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and I’m going to be stepping away for treatment and surgery,” she said, her voice steady but filled with emotion. “If I didn’t say that I was a little bit scared, I’d be lying.”

Sara, who also hosts the real estate series Open House, spoke candidly about the weight of the diagnosis, particularly given her family history. Her mother and sister have both previously faced breast cancer, something she admitted had long shaped her expectations.

“I always knew I was high-risk. I always assumed this day would come. But let me tell you, you are never ready,” she shared.

Despite being vigilant with her health, Sara revealed that the emotional impact of the diagnosis caught her off guard. “For some reason, even when you catch it early because you’re doing everything right, it is an emotional blow,” she said, pausing as her voice caught. “I wasn’t ready for that. That actually really surprised me. It really stung.”

In a moment that resonated deeply with viewers, Sara turned her attention to her colleagues, describing them as a second family. “I love you. I feel loved. I feel very supported,” she said, visibly moved.

While the road ahead will involve time away from the screen, Sara spoke with quiet strength and optimism about what lies ahead. “As hard as this is, I am choosing to believe, at least for me, in this moment in time, that maybe there is a gift in this, even if I don’t fully understand what it is yet,” she explained. “I’m working on that part. If anything, it’s already a reminder of how precious life is and how important it is to focus on what really matters.”

Though she did not share specific details about her treatment plan, Sara confirmed she will be taking time to “rest and to heal,” focusing fully on her recovery.

Offering reassurance to her audience, she added: “I’m going to come back better than ever, and I’m going to see you on the other side of this. Thank you for all you’ve done.”

She also expressed gratitude for the care and support surrounding her during this difficult time. “I’m exactly where I need to be, and I’m surrounded by incredible doctors, and people who are taking such good care of me at home, thank you,” she said.
