‘This is the only statement’

Anna Wintour’s daughter, Bee Shaffer, and her husband, Francesco Carrozzini, have split after almost eight years of marriage.

The couple announced the news of their plans to divorce in a statement on Friday, less than two weeks after they appeared at the Met Gala together.

Bee, 38, and Francesco, 43, who share a four-year-old son, Oliver, married in July 2018, and despite their split, they said they remain the “best of friends.”

 “After ten wonderful years together, we have decided to separate,” they said in a statement to Page Six.

“Although our career paths led us in different directions, we remain the very best of friends and devoted, committed parents to our son. This is the only statement we will make, and we respectfully ask for privacy.”

Bee and Francesco were last seen together at the Met Gala on May 4, both still wearing their wedding bands and posing together for photos on the red carpet.

She married film director and photographer Francesco, son of the late Vogue Italia‘s editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani, at her mom’s home in Mastic, New York.

One week after their July 2018 wedding, they held a second ceremony in Portofino, Italy. 

The couple welcomed their son in October 2021, announcing his birth on Instagram the following month, alongside three sweet photos.

Bee did not follow her mom into a career in fashion after saying she’s “staying far away from Vogue” following her graduation from Columbia.

Instead, Bee works in the entertainment industry and is a former segment producer at Late Night with Seth Meyers. She now works for ATG Entertainment in New York as a Broadway producer on shows including The Wiz, Parade, and The Last Five Years.

Bee is one of Anna’s two children; she also welcomed son Charles with her first ex-husband, child psychiatrist David Shaffer, whom she was married to from 1984 to 1999. He died in October 2023 at age 87. 

Charles followed in his dad’s footsteps, becoming a psychiatrist after earning his Doctor of Medicine degree with a specialization in psychiatry from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2016.

Before his stint at Columbia, Charles attended Oxford University, where he met his wife, Elizabeth. In 2014, the couple married at his mom’s weekend home in Mastic Beach, New York. 

They welcomed their first child, daughter Caroline, in March 2017, and their second daughter, Ella Rose, in 2019.

Despite serving as US Vogue’s editor-in-chief for 37 years, Anna admitted recently that she was “relentless” about spending time with her kids.

“I was relentless about going to the games and turning up at the parent-teacher meetings, being there when it was important,” she told Vogue last month. “I felt like Vogue could always wait and that it’s okay to be a busy mother. You make it work.”

“I try to instill in my children and my grandchildren that it’s family that counts and family who will give you love and support,” she added. “If you have that, everything else will be fine.”
