The Vicar of Dibley and Bridgerton star James Fleet has a famous wife

James Fleet has starred in some of the biggest shows over the years, including as Hugo Horton in The Vicar of Dibley and King George III in global smash Bridgerton.

The star, 74, first rose to fame in 1979 when he appeared in an episode of The Omega Factor, before following it up with roles in Dempsey and Makepeace, Boon, The Bill, and Murder Most Horrid. In the same year as he landed his breakout role, he also starred in British romcom Four Weddings and a Funeral, where he played Tom.

James’s career has continued to flourish since his major roles, with the actor also featuring in Sense and Sensibility, The Phantom of the Opera, Operation Mincemeat, Chambers, Midsomer Murders, Outlander and Dodger.

However, James isn’t the only famous face in his family, as since 1984, the star has been married to the actress Jane Booker.

Jane has over 40 credits to her name, with the star making her debut in Angels back in 1979. Another early role was in Hullabaloo Over Georgie and Bonnie’s Pictures, where she starred alongside acting royalty Dame Peggy Ashcroft.

The actress has also appeared in the likes of Finding Neverland, Don’t Wait Up, A Perfect Spy, Colin’s Sandwich, Murder Most Horrid and Doctors.

Acting brought the pair together, with the duo meeting while performing in a stage play. James reflected: ā€œOur characters didn’t speak onstage, but we fell for each other behind the scenes. I wasn’t confident enough to do anything about it, so she had to make the first move.ā€

In an interview with The Telegraph in 2025, James revealed that he often tries to avoid arguing with his wife, confessing: ā€œI am very conscious of not being grumpy in front of my wife. I don’t ever complain about the way the dishwasher is stacked, although I might suggest there are other ways to do itā€¦ā€

He also revealed in the same interview that Jane would often ā€œlendā€ him out to her friends in order for him to complete their handywork. He joked: ā€œI am very handy. I struggle to understand how any woman can give herself over to a man who can’t put a screw in a wall or mend a tap.

ā€œMy wife lends me out to other women who need washers replaced; they shower me with such praise that I’m sure their husbands must hate me.ā€
