Justin Cary, the Sixpence None the Richer bassist, has died at the age of 50.
The musician âpassed peacefullyâ on Thursday after suffering from a âserious strokeâ one week prior, according to a GoFundMe.
âLinda was next to him,â a statement posted to the fundraising page read, referring to his wife. âPlease continue to pray and give strength during this very difficult time.â
Last week, Cary was hospitalized at Albany Med in New York, where he underwent two surgeries and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
âThe road ahead is uncertain and scary so if you are so inclined to pray, send good vibes and healing energy it would be truly appreciated,â the GoFundMe description reads.
âWe wanted to put together a fundraiser to help them during this time and show them love and support. Updates will be made on this site so we can allow Linda to be with Justin at the hospital while they take each step day by day.â
Then, one day before Caryâs death on July 17, the pageâs organizer gave another update, sharing that he was still âin the ICU and on a respirator.â
âHe is receiving amazing care!â the update read. âLinda is right next to his bed reading to him and hopeful he hears her.
âShe is also telling him how much he is loved. Please continue to pray and send healing vibes.â
At the time of Page Sixâs article publication, more than 360 people had donated, raising more than $38,000.
Sixpence None the Richer formed in 1992, and Cary joined the band in 1997 alongside vocalist Leigh Nash, guitarist and songwriter Matt Slocum, drummer Dale Baker and guitarist Tess Wiley.
Other members of the band included keyboardist Jason Lehning and Steve Hindalong, who joined the group as a percussionist in 2024.
The groupâs greatest hits include their 1998 track âKiss Meâ and 2002 single âBreathe Your Name.â
âKiss Meâ previously reached No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated at the 2000 Grammy Awards in the category of best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals.
Linda mourned her husbandâs death via Instagram, writing alongside throwback photos, âWhat an honor to be his wife and best friend đ©”.â
Cary was also remembered on the bandâs Instagram page in a statement that read, ââWe sure had a great timeâ is an understatement. Thank you, Justin. We love you forever ⊠Thereâs never been anybody like Justin. đđ».â
