Sharon Stone decided to end her second marriage due to the way her then-husband reacted during her terrifying health scare.
During Mondayâs episode of David Begnaudâs âThe Person Who Believed In Meâ podcast, the âBasic Instinctâ actress said she learned she had tumors in her breasts in the early 2000s.
âOne of them was bigger than the size of my entire left breast,â she recalled. âAnd the doctor had come out to my house and said, âLook, we think you should have a bilateral mastectomy. This is really bad. And we usually, when theyâre all the way up into here, we know before we go in that theyâre cancer.ââ
Stone, 68, said she was certain that her tumors were benign.
âI said, âI donât have cancer,ââ she shared on the podcast. âAnd [the doctor] said, âYou donât get to decide that.â And I said, âI do. I do get to decide that. Iâm deciding.ââ
Ultimately, the âCasinoâ star said she decided she would undergo the surgery âbecause Iâm not fâking around.â
However, Stoneâs then-husband made it clear that he did not support her decision.
âMy husband said, âThis is ridiculous,ââ she remembered. âAnd got up and left the room.â
Podcast host Begnaud then asked the Stone, âWhich part was ridiculous?â
She responded, âThat I would have a bilateral [mastectomy]. He was furious.â
Begnaud asked, âOh, not that the cancer, if it [were] true, might kill you?â
âNo, no,â Stone replied.
The Oscar nominee said her husband was upset because she would have to have both of her breasts removed.
âAnd so the doctor said to him, âIf I had more patients like her, weâd have more women alive today. You need to sit down.â And I said, âI make the decisions, not you,ââ she shared.
Stone said her husbandâs reaction ultimately led to the demise of their relationship.
âThat was the end of the marriage. That was it. He was done with me then. It was over,â she claimed.
âIt was just over in the room. You could just tell. It was over. It was just over. He thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself,â Stone added.
Though Stone did not name anyone, she was married to her second husband, Phil Bronstein, from 1998 to 2004.
The âCatwomanâ actressâs tumors ended up being benign and she did not have to undergo a double mastectomy.
In 2021, Stone revealed that when she had the surgery to remove the tumors, the doctor allegedly gave her larger breast implants without her consent.
Page Six has reached out to Bronstein for comment but did not immediately hear back.
