Sharna Burgess and Sasha Farber dated for years before ‘Dancing With the Stars’: Why they broke up

Sharna Burgess and Sasha Farber were once romantically in sync.

The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro revealed she dated the fellow dancer long before landing a spot on the hit dance competition series.

“He came into my life at a time when I just really needed to remember how to laugh again,” Burgess recalled on Monday’s episode of “The Penthouse With Peta” podcast. “There was so much going on in my world in my early 20s.”

The two met while on the 2006 live dance tour, “Burn the Floor,” in Reno, Nevada.

Burgess explained that, while on tour, their rooms were “right next” to each other.

“One night, my little self just went over and knocked on his door and was like, ‘Hi…’ We’d been flirting around it, and then we got together,” she recalled. “I think we were together for three years, five years. I don’t remember. However long I was on ‘Burn the Floor,’ we were together for.”

Burgess, who was on the tour until 2010, called Farber “such a sweet guy” and a “great boyfriend.”

However, the choreographer ended up leaving the tour due to her dad’s health issues. Once Burgess returned to Australia, it was “too hard” to continue a relationship with Farber.

“I never knew when I was gonna be back on tour again. Sash was with the tour,” she explained. “It was like, when are our wires in our lives’ paths ever gonna cross again? We broke up over Skype.”

Burgess called the breakup “tough,” noting that it “really sucked, especially doing it over Skype.”

“And then of course, six months later, we ended up being on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ together at the same time,” she mused.

Burgess and Farber both joined the long-running ABC series in 2011 as troupe members, before being promoted to pro dancers in 2013.

Despite the split being “hard,” Burgess did see a silver lining.

“That breakup for me ended up leading to him being with Emma [Slater], which was a whole thing that they were meant to have, their journey with each other,” she mused.

Farber tied the knot with Slater in 2018 before the exes split in 2022. The dancer is now dating Janel Parrish, while Slater has moved on with fellow “DWTS” pro Alan Bersten.

For her part, Burgess started dating Brian Austin Green in 2020 before going Instagram-official in 2021.

The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum competed on Season 30 of “Dancing with the Stars” alongside his other half that same year.

A year later, Burgess and Green welcomed son Zane, 3, and the actor popped the question in 2023.

Green is dad to four other children: Noah, 13, Bodhi, 12, and Journey, 9, with ex-wife Megan Fox, and son Kassius, 24, with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Marcil.

Burgess called their blended family “so beautiful” while on the “Quite Frankly podcast” in 2023.

“First of all, they make it easy. They’re incredible kids,” she gushed. “Brian and Megan did such an amazing job. Kass is also an amazing kid. There’s been no resistance. I have a beautiful relationship with them [all].”
