Who is Sam Worthingtonâs wife?Â
Sam is married to Australian model, Lara Bingle.Â
The 38-year-old has graced the covers of leading magazines â including Elle Australia and Harperâs Bazaar Australia â and fronted campaigns and partnerships with luxury brands Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co and YSL Beauty.
Lara has appeared on various entertainment shows, including The Celebrity Apprentice Australia, Australiaâs Next Top Model and Dancing with the Stars. She also gave fans a glimpse behind the scenes of her life in her 2012 reality documentary, Being Lara Bingle.Â
Sam and Laraâs family life
Sam and Lara tied the knot in December 2014. They first crossed paths in New York Cityâs Central Park during the Global Citizen Festival in 2013.Â
The couple, who moved from their home in Los Angeles to New York City in 2022, share three sons.Â
Their first son, Rocket Zot, arrived in March 2015, followed by Racer in 2016 and River in 2020.Â
Explaining the meaning behind his childrenâs names, Sam told The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2022: âI wanted them to mean something, so Rocket means to ascend; Racer came from a poem about a kid that embraces life, embraces being part of the human race.â
As for their youngest, Sam continued: âThen River, we wanted something a bit more calm, but heâs always a torrent. Heâs the worst. Heâs the wildest.â
Sam and Laraâs ânormalâ home life
Sam and Laraâs move to New York City was partly influenced by the cityâs stricter paparazzi laws.Â
âWe tend to try to keep our lives as normal as we can. I donât think about that stuff ever. I donât make it my reality,â Lara told Marie Clare Australia. âMy mum instilled in me that itâs important to maintain a little bit of mystery. I think itâs hard in this day and age to achieve. Iâve tried to keep things pretty close to my chest and I think thereâs a certain elegance to that.â
How Lara helped Sam overcome his struggles with alcohol
Sam has been sober for over a decade. Looking back on his struggle with addiction, which came after the immense success of Avatar, the actor reflected: âI couldnât see it. I thought it was normal.
âI didnât like who I was. Drinking helped me get through the day,â he told Variety in 2022.Â
He credits his wife, Lara, with helping him tackle his addiction, explaining that she gave him a firm ultimatum. âYou can do what you want, but I donât need to be around this,â she told him, a turning point that led him to seek sobriety.
