Sam Worthington is back on our TV screens for the first time in four years in Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, I Will Find You. The 49-year-old Australian actor, who shot to fame as the star of James Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster Avatar, plays an innocent man serving life in prison for the murder of his son.
The award-winning actor, who last appeared on the small screen in the 2022 series Under the Banner of Heaven, is famed for his illustrious Hollywood career, known for starring in Terminator Salvation, Clash of the Titans and Hacksaw Ridge. But how much do you know about his life off-screen?

Who is Sam Worthington’s wife?
Sam is married to Australian model, Lara Bingle.
The 38-year-old has graced the covers of leading magazines – including Elle Australia and Harper’s Bazaar Australia – and fronted campaigns and partnerships with luxury brands Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co and YSL Beauty.
Lara has appeared on various entertainment shows, including The Celebrity Apprentice Australia, Australia’s Next Top Model and Dancing with the Stars. She also gave fans a glimpse behind the scenes of her life in her 2012 reality documentary, Being Lara Bingle.

Sam and Lara tied the knot in December 2014. They first crossed paths in New York City’s Central Park during the Global Citizen Festival in 2013.
The couple, who moved from their home in Los Angeles to New York City in 2022, share three sons.
Their first son, Rocket Zot, arrived in March 2015, followed by Racer in 2016 and River in 2020.
© FilmMagicExplaining the meaning behind his children’s names, Sam told The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2022: “I wanted them to mean something, so Rocket means to ascend; Racer came from a poem about a kid that embraces life, embraces being part of the human race.”
As for their youngest, Sam continued: “Then River, we wanted something a bit more calm, but he’s always a torrent. He’s the worst. He’s the wildest.”
Sam and Lara’s ‘normal’ home life
Sam and Lara’s move to New York City was partly influenced by the city’s stricter paparazzi laws.

I don’t make it my reality,” Lara told Marie Clare Australia. “My mum instilled in me that it’s important to maintain a little bit of mystery. I think it’s hard in this day and age to achieve. I’ve tried to keep things pretty close to my chest and I think there’s a certain elegance to that.”
How Lara helped Sam overcome his struggles with alcohol
Sam has been sober for over a decade. Looking back on his struggle with addiction, which came after the immense success of Avatar, the actor reflected: “I couldn’t see it. I thought it was normal.

He credits his wife, Lara, with helping him tackle his addiction, explaining that she gave him a firm ultimatum. “You can do what you want, but I don’t need to be around this,” she told him, a turning point that led him to seek sobriety.
