Queen Camilla donned one of her favourite colours last week as she stepped out at the Founders’ Day ceremony at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. The wife of King Charles chose to sport a beautiful pastel pink coat dress and a resplendent wide-brimmed hat. But it was her fabulous new handbag which stole the show.

The royal has a plethora of Launer bags in classic shades like cream and black, but this one was rather daring for Camilla, as it was etched with the most stunning, eye-catching flowers in a myriad of colours.

The bag is part of Launer’s new collaboration with fellow royal warrant holder Sanderson, and it seems that Camilla was among the first to get her hands on the blooming lovely design as it was launched last month.

With a price tag of £1,500, the rectangular shape is an easy-carry piece. According to the brand, it first appeared as wallpaper in 1914 and as a fabric in 1929. It’s described as a “rich mix of botanicals – varied in scale, shape and form, layered to create a lush, multidirectional composition. This floral symphony blooms across the exterior of the bag, whilst the interior features plush suede in a complementary pink hue, accented by a Dusky Rose leather reverse flap.”

There’s also a heartfelt message: for every bag sold from the Launer x Sanderson collection, Launer will donate a percentage to QEST, the charity that invests in the future of British craft.

Camilla’s tribute

Queen Elizabeth was famously loyal to Launer London. The upmarket company has been supplying the royal family with leather goods since 1968. Camilla, too, has consistently carried the brand’s handbags at many high-profile royal events. Many have remarked that it could be her way of secretly paying tribute to her mother-in-law, a reminder of her at gatherings she was known to adore.

Queen Elizabeth even carried her beloved Launer London handbag during her last public appearance before she died in 2022.
