Tiger Woods has officially returned to the spotlight for the first time since his rollover car crash in Florida back in March.
The pro golfer, 50, joined PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp for a press conference prior to the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut on Tuesday, June 23.
Tiger Woodsâ comeback
The pair represented the PGA committee to introduce a brand new, revamped model of the PGA Tour competitive structure. While it had been initially announced that Tiger would deliver remarks, it was unclear whether those would be sent through a representative or heâd appear in person.
The dad-of-two took an extended break from the public eye and the sport after the crash in late March, dedicating himself to caring for his health, reportedly entering a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland.
He was sighted touching back down in Florida earlier this month after several weeks at his recovery program, apparently to aid in the care for his girlfriend Vanessa Trump, who shared her breast cancer diagnosis in May.
The PGA Tour revamp
Ahead of his appearance, Tiger shared a statement on social media to support the PGA Tourâs new overhaul. âHonored to stand alongside Brian Rolapp today at the Travelers Championship as we announce the PGA Tourâs new model for 2028 and beyond,â he penned.
âThis is an exciting moment for the game of golf. It has been a privilege to lead the Future Competition Committee and I am proud of the work we have done to build the best version of the PGA TOUR for future generations of players and fans.â
In a separate statement shared ahead of the conference, he reiterated: âFrom the beginning, the committeeâs focus was on delivering a better experience for our fans, while creating a model that best sets up the tour, its players and its partners for long-term success and stability.â
Tigerâs appearance
During the actual conference, Tiger, wearing a charcoal gray-toned suit with a blue tie, appeared to be in good spirits, although spoke more solemnly. âThis work was never about any one player or person,â he said while up on stage, per video shared by the Golf Channel.
âIt was about bringing together different perspectives, having honest, hard conversations, and thinking boldly about what is best for the game that we all love.â
âIt has been a privilege to work with all the committee members, and especially my fellow player-directors,â he added. âIâm proud of the work weâve done, and Iâm grateful to everyone who contributed along the way. We have to look forward, and beyond today, over the horizon, to set up the PGA tour and our sport for the future generation of players and our fans.â
Brian Rolappâs support
When Tiger announced his decision to take time off to recover, PGA CEO Brian shared a statement of support, which read: Tiger Woods is one of the most influential figures the sports world has ever known.âÂ
âOver the last year, I have come to deeply appreciate Tiger not only for his impact on the game, but for his friendship and the perspective he has shared with me as I joined the golf industry,â it read. âMy thoughts are with him and his family as he takes this step, for which he has my full respect and support.â
