Royal fashion fans will be excited to discover that there’s a new Royal Warrant in town. On Tuesday, it was announced that Queen Camilla has granted Dame Anya Hindmarch the coveted award. The royally loved brand, famed for its ingenious yet classic designs, is now an official royal manufacturer of handbags and leather goods.
Anya Hindmarch took to Instagram to alert fans of the special announcement, penning: “We are honoured to have been granted a Royal Warrant as Manufacturer of Handbags and Leather Goods to Her Majesty The Queen. The appointment is a true privilege and affirms our deep respect for the Royal Household and their continued work in support of British brands and sustainability.”
What is a royal warrant?
A royal warrant is a serious accolade for any brand. It’s granted exclusively to individuals or brands who have consistently provided exceptional goods or services to the royal household. According to the official Royal Family website, over 800 businesses currently hold this esteemed recognition, a testament to their excellence.
The Royal Warrant extends beyond borders; there is no requirement for the appointed company to be British-owned or UK-based. As the Royal Family emphasises: “Warrant-holding firms do not provide their goods or services for free to the Royal Households, and all transactions are conducted on a strictly commercial basis.”
Once it has been granted, recipients are awarded an official Royal Warrant Display Document, conferring the right to bear the Royal Arms – a mark of distinction that lasts for five years before renewal is required.
Kate’s love for Anya Hindmarch
The Princess of Wales has always worn Anya Hindmarch. Prince William’s wife has been carrying the British designer’s leather goods since 2011. The mother-of-three has worn the brand for a plethora of high-profile international tours and formal events.
In 2011, during the tour of North America, the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated Canada Day at a concert in Ottawa. Kate donned a resplendent violet dress by Issa and carried a black, purse-lock bag by Anya Hindmarch, known as the ‘Maud’ silk clutch.
Fast forward to 2025, Kate headed to the women’s singles final at Wimbledon, looking picture-perfect in an ivory-hued dress from royally-approved British label, Self-Portrait. She spruced up her creamy-hued look with a slouchy woven leather bag by Anya Hindmarch. Dubbed the ‘Neeson Small Square Tote’, Kate’s bag in ‘Chalk’ featured thick woven strands of leather, the brand’s signature woven bow, an internal pocket, adjustable handles and a zipped top for added security.
