Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have confirmed their baby daughter’s adorable name.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, they revealed that their third child is called Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, a younger sister for August, five, and Ernest, three.

Eugenie also shared three adorable new photographs of her new arrival, including Adelaide wrapped up in a light blue blanket, her tiny hand, and meeting her big brothers. All the new pictures were taken by the Princess herself, HELLO! understands.

She wrote alongside the announcement: “2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we’ve had the most special, cosy and love-filled time.”

The hidden meanings behind Adelaide’s adorable name

Adelaide’s middle name makes for a sweet nod to her late great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Eugenie and Jack chose to blend English and Portuguese history, a nod to their beloved home on the continent.

Describing the meaning behind her name, the royal wrote: “Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts. Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.”

She added: “Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”

Eugenie and Jack revealed on 4 August they had welcomed a daughter in a social media post, but they didn’t initially include her name.

Why has Princess Eugenie only just revealed her baby’s name?

HELLO! understands that Eugenie, 36, and Jack, 40, for their new arrival, announcing it when they felt the time was right.

The couple chose to wait two weeks to pick the perfect name. In comparison, the Prince and Princess of Wales and Prince Harry and Meghan typically took around two days to confirm their children’s names.

However, it’s not the first time that Eugenie and Jack, who are not working royals, have chosen to take their time.

Similar to his newborn baby sister, August Brooksbank‘s name was not included in the palace’s statement or in Eugenie’s initial post announcing his arrival in 2021. His full name, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was revealed 11 days later in a post on the Princess’ Instagram.

However, the birth announcement for their second son Ernest in 2023 did state his full name, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank.

Like Eugenie, Princess Beatrice also chose to wait when announcing her children’s names. Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, waited 13 days to reveal Sienna’s name after her birth in 2021, releasing a sweet footprint photo. Last year, they waited a week to announce that baby Athena had been born and to reveal her name.

Back in 1988, the Duke and Duchess of York took two weeks to confirm Princess Beatrice’s name. The Queen also didn’t share Prince Charles’ moniker publicly for a month after his birth in 1948.

August was named after multiple relatives, including Eugenie’s paternal grandfather, Prince Philip. And, after Ernest was born, Eugenie wrote on Instagram: “He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald.”

Beatrice’s daughters, meanwhile, are Sienna Elizabeth, four, and Athena Elizabeth Rose, one.

The couple chose to honour Beatrice’s late grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, by giving both daughters the same middle name.

What we know so far about Princess Eugenie’s daughter

Eugenie and Jack’s latest addition to their family was born on 3 August at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6lb 9oz. Both mother and baby were said to be doing well.

The new arrival is 15th in line to the throne and the fifth grandchild of the former Duke and Duchess of York, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, after the birth of Princess Beatrice’s daughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi in January last year.

However, she will not hold an HRH title as she’s not a direct grandchild of the reigning monarch, King Charles.

The pregnancy was announced in May, with Eugenie sharing on Instagram a picture of her young son Ernest, wearing a Chelsea football kit, and her other child August, wearing a long-sleeved grey T-shirt, holding a picture of a baby scan.

Eugenie and Jack’s ‘normal’ upbringing for their children

Princess Eugenie married her husband Jack Brooksbank in 2018 at St George’s Chapel inside Windsor Castle, which was attended by the late Queen Elizabeth and other members of the royal family.

Eugenie is not a working royal and spends much of her time in Portugal, where she and Jack have a home. She’s also a director at art gallery Hauser & Wirth. However, she will occasionally join the royals at high-profile events such as Christmas and Easter, or garden parties in the summer.

Royal author Robert Jobson told HELLO! previously: “The royal sisters have both avoided complications for their children by avoiding royal and aristocratic titles.

“Their children are simply August and Ernest Brooksbank and Sienna and Athena Mapelli Mozzi. It means less scrutiny and means they can avoid the burden of being truly public figures.”

Eugenie and Beatrice have stayed out of the public eye since the start of the year due to scrutiny over their parents’ friendships with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

However, in recent months they have seemingly begun to return to public life, for example, attending Harriet and Peter Phillips’ wedding in June alongside senior royals such as King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
