It would have been a reunion of historic proportions if Prince William had joined his brother, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, when they met with King Charles during their visit to the UK earlier this month.
According to the Daily Mail, despite their years-long feud, the royal brothers are in communication, according to friends of the Duke, who spoke to the publication. “Friends of Harry say the brothers ‘do communicate’ and say: ‘It would have been the most amazing signal to everybody if William had managed to be at Highgrove.'”
The publication added: “That seems the faintest of prospects, but Harry must be serious indeed about reconciliation to even talk about aiming for this outcome. As one Sussex source observes: ‘everyone knows their future is not in his dad’s hands – it’s in his brother’s.”
However, HELLO! understands that this report is not true, and that Harry and William are not on speaking terms, which explains why we didn’t see the brothers reunite during Harry and Meghan’s trip to the UK.
The royal brothers’ years-long feud
The Princes have not been on speaking terms since Harry’s departure from royal duties in 2020. The rift escalated after Harry and Meghan Markle aired private family grievances in a series of public interviews and his bombshell tell-all memoir, Spare.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex were last seen publicly together at their father’s coronation in May 2023.
While they were also reunited privately at their maternal uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ funeral in Norfolk in August 2024, they reportedly did not speak or sit next to one another.
Harry’s meeting with King Charles
One person whom Harry did reunite with was his father, the King, and Harry is reported to be feeling “buoyed and energised” following the family meeting, according to the Times.
It was implied that he hopes the meeting could mark a fresh start, with the insider adding: “Every journey of a thousand miles begins with one footstep.”
Harry’s family meeting with His Majesty at Highgrove was the first time Prince Archie, seven, and five-year-old Princess Lilibet had met their grandfather in person since 2022, when they visited the UK for the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
