Prime Video’s ‘incredible’ new drama Off Campus has viewers binge-watching until 4am

Hot on the heels of Heated Rivalry is the new hockey romance, Off Campus. The eight-part series premiered on Prime Video on Wednesday, and viewers have stayed up all night binge-watching the steamy series. 

Based on Elle Kennedy’s 2015 romance novel The Deal, the series follows a group of hockey-playing college students as they navigate love, friendships and heartbreak at the fictional Briar University. Season one follows the “sexy and fun opposites attract romance” between quiet songwriter, Hannah, and the college’s all-star hockey athlete, Garrett. 

Heated Rivalry, which follows the forbidden love affair between two rival ice hockey players, became a viral sensation after its release in the US last year and in the UK in January – and it looks like Off Campus may just have a similar impact. I was instantly hooked on the queer hockey romp earlier this year, I can’t wait to get stuck into this steamy new sports romance. Move over Hollander and Rozanov!

What are viewers saying about Off Campus? 

It’s safe to say the drama has gone down a storm with viewers, who have hailed the show as “incredible”. 

Taking to social media, one person wrote: “4am and I’m finishing binge-watching off campus,” while another was “hooked” within five minutes.

A third viewer penned: “I have binge watched all 8 episodes, literally just finished. Oh my god… Off Campus is perfect!” while another added: “WOW! Off campus is the show of the year! What is Off Campus about? 

The series follows an elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they “grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood,” according to the synopsis.

The first set of episodes focus on the romance between songwriter Hannah and all-star hockey player Garrett. 

Ella Bright, who plays Hannah, says the show is more than just smut. “I think there are so many things and characters that people can find themselves in and relate to in the show,” she told HELLO! in an exclusive interview. “I think it’s a lot of fun, and there’s a lot more depth than maybe people are initially expecting. If you’re coming for the smut, as I like to say, you’ll get it, but you’ll also get a lot of heart.”

What have TV critics said about the show? 

The series has received positive reviews from critics, with The Guardian hailing it as “soapy, spicy and incredibly moreish” in its four-star review, while the Radio Times also awarded four stars.

Will there be a second season? 

Yes. Fans will be pleased to know that we’ll be heading back to Briar University for another semester, as the drama was renewed before the release of season one.
