Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones have added several impressive properties to their collective portfolio during their 26-year-long marriage. But long before the Basic Instinct star married the Wednesday actress, he lived at home, dividing his time between his Hollywood legend father’s home and his mother’s farmhouse in Connecticut, after their divorce in 1951.
Spartacus actor Kirk Douglas, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 103, lived in a Beverly Hills pad in 1955 when he was pictured with son Michael in the backyard with his other son, Joel. A young Michael was seen playing with his brother and father as he swung from a pole beside their outdoor swimming pool.
The villa-style home was in the background. In 2021, the home was listed with Nourmand & Associates for $7.495 million.
A nod to his Hollywood roots
The 4,648-square-foot residence features four bedrooms and came with an unexpected feature that signalled Kirk Douglas’ movie-star status – its own Hollywood Walk of Fame.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the home featured a path made up of stepping stones that were personally autographed by a slew of legendary movie stars.
“Kirk and [his wife] Ann Douglas loved to entertain. When they would host dinner parties, they would ask their friends to sign their names in concrete stepping stones,” Atlas Maize, a realtor with Nourmand & Associates, told the magazine of how the pathway came about.
Included in the line-up of stars featuring in the signed stones were Tony Curtis, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda, and Elizabeth Taylor. Kirk’s two sons also signed their own stones.
The four-bedroom property is poles apart from the sprawling estate in Irvington that became Michael and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ main residence in 2019 and is currently on the market for $9.75M, according to IG Mansions, having knocked $2.25M off the asking price since 2024.
Inside Michael and Catherine’s Irvington home
The riverfront estate covers an impressive 12,000 square feet and offers eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Situated just 20 miles from New York, the home is the couple’s personal haven away from the spotlight and somewhere where they can enjoy quality time with their children, Dylan, 25, and Carys, 23.
Now, the couple is looking for a new residence as they step into a new era as empty nesters.
“When I purchased our Irvington home, I knew our family would share many happy times here, and we have!” Catherine told the Wall Street Journal. “Now that both our son and daughter have left the nest, it seems like the right time to sell.”
