Meet The Odyssey and Spider-Man star Tom Holland’s incredibly famous dad

Tom Holland has carved out an incredible career for himself, starring in the Spider-Man films, Billy Elliot the Musical and Uncharted, alongside Christopher Nolan’s new epic film, The Odyssey.

Away from his stellar screen career, which has seen him win a BAFTA Award, the star is also known for his high-profile relationship with his Spider-Man co-star, Zendaya. The couple even quietly tied the knot earlier this year.

The actor is known to be close to his family, including his three brothers, Harry, Paddy and Sam, but the 30-year-old also has a close relationship with his father, who is a famous comedian and broadcaster.

Tom Holland’s famous dad

Dominic started his career as a comedian, making his professional debut in 1991. He later performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, earning a Perrier Best Newcomer Award. Despite starting his career in 1991, it wasn’t until 2012 that the star recorded his first-ever comedy DVD.

Dominic later transitioned into TV comedy, working with Harry Hill on Lafter Hours and Graham Norton on Bring Me the Head of Light Entertainment. Fans will also have spotted the comedian on the likes of Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, They Think It’s All Over and The Brian Conley Show.

Like his son, the star also has a movie career behind him, appearing in the likes of P’tang, Yang, Kipperbang and The Young Person’s Guide to Becoming a Rock Star.

Dominic has joked about his son’s fame eclipsing his own, and in 2013 wrote How Tom Holland Eclipsed His Dad. In the strapline for the book, he jokes: “Eclipsed is the unlikely but true story of an ordinary family, muddling on through life without much of a plan and dealing with circumstances that confound normal expectations.

Despite Tom being a Hollywood A-lister, he previously revealed that Dominic isn’t fazed by his success. Speaking to the Standard in 2018, Tom confessed: “The thing that’s amazing about my dad is that he is the only person I know who isn’t afraid to say I’m being a [expletive].

“In this industry, everyone says you’re amazing, everyone says yes. The only people that tell me no are my parents. It’s so important for me to have that grounding because otherwise you get lost in the clouds.”

When being interviewed by Zendaya in 2017, Tom also shared how his parents helped him navigate the industry: “I come from very creative parents,” he told his future wife. “It’s nice to have a dad who’s been in the industry for probably over 30 years because he knows all the dos and don’ts and the ins and outs and stuff.”
