Lady Kitty Spencer’s asymmetric dress is the 2026 version of aunt Princess Diana’s favourite style

Lady Kitty Spencer has had an eventful week with high-end fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. The pristine Italian label has been celebrating the brand’s coveted runway show, which was held in Taormina.

The three-day spectacle featured an A-list guest list, including Jennifer Lopez and football star Erling Haaland.

Kitty’s third and final look of the 72-hour soiree was a bold black, asymmetric dress. The show-stopping style featured gold beaded detail at the waist and a billowing maxi skirt. She wore her trademark blonde hair in a high ponytail with glittery diamonds as her standout accessory choice.

Posing alongside Erling, who has just returned from representing Norway in the World Cup, the mother-of-one penned: “Alta Sartoria for @dolcegabbana.” The footballer’s long-term girlfriend, Isabel Haugseng Johansen, was also in the chic snap.

Diana’s asymmetric style

Kitty’s late aunt, Princess Diana, had a penchant for asymmetric dresses, donning many during her life. Perhaps Kitty, 35, was taking a leaf out of her relative’s standout style; after all, she told our sister title, HELLO! Fashion, that she deemed her aunt “iconic.”

“It’s such a wonderful thing that her fashion influence is still enduring today. She was a great ambassador for British fashion,” she mused in 2017.

In 1983, Diana shone in a heavily beaded one-shoulder look by Hachi as she and then-Prince Charles attended the London premiere of Octopussy.

After her divorce from Charles, Princess Diana wore more international designers, like this royal-blue Versace gown, which she donned in 1996 for a fundraiser in Sydney, Australia. The asymmetric cut was daring, and many felt it symbolised her freedom from royal style rules.

Kitty’s style ethos

When it comes to dressing up, Kitty believes it’s better to be confident and happy than to feel uncomfortable in fleeting trends. “I think the best thing about fashion and style is taking the bits that suit you and playing with them, rather than conforming to whatever the trends are,” she quipped.

“I dress for my shape,” she admitted, “and I like anything that goes in at the waist. I make sure my clothes are nicely tailored and classic but still feminine – I don’t like anything too fussy.”
