The legendary rapper was just 25 when he was shot dead at a traffic light in Las Vegas in an act of revenge following a physical altercation earlier in the evening. Tupac had an odd request for his friends, though; he wanted the members of his old hip-hop group, The Outlawz, to smoke his ashes after his death.
“Yes, it’s definitely true,” his friend Young Noble later confirmed to VladTV.
“Had a little memorial for him with his mum and his family. We had hit the beach, threw [in] a lot of s*** he liked at the beach. Some weed, some chicken wings, he loved orange soda… Pac loved that kind of s***, so we were giving him our own farewell.”
His friend EDI Mean added that Tupac’s request came in the form of a song lyric. “I came up with that s***. If you listen to ‘Black Jesus’, he said, ‘Last wishes…smoke my ashes’. That was a request that he had. Now, how serious he was about it? We took it serious.”
Tupac’s friend and Death Row Records founder Suge Knight later claimed to People that the rapper actually didn’t want to be cremated.
“He told me, ‘When I go, I want every rapper at my funeral to grab the mic. I want them to kiss me head to toe. Just like in ‘Life Goes On.’ He didn’t want to be cremated.”
