We are still reeling over the Princess of Wales’ latest appearance at the 125th anniversary of Cancer Research UK, which was held on Monday evening. The event was held at St. James’s Palace, and Kate joined her father-in-law, King Charles, as a last-minute plan announced by Kensington Palace just hours before.

The royal looked resplendent in a red heart-print dress, a new item from Rodarte, a brand she hadn’t worn before. The style featured a built-in belted waist and white lapels. But did you notice her makeup?

The royal, who is a known fan of the natural look, often sporting a fresh face with subtle touches of cosmetics, appeared to have amped up her makeup bag for the evening, opting for dark eyeshadow and mascara on both the top and bottom lashes, as well as a flick of liquid eyeliner.

Throughout the years, Kate has often emphasised her eye area, particularly after her engagement to Prince William was announced in 2010.

Sixteen years ago, when her engagement to Prince William was announced to the world, the now Princess of Wales famously donned a royal blue dress by UK brand Issa London when she was photographed at St James’s Palace for official photographs.

Her makeup was timely and of the moment; her look featured rather bold smoky eyes and brows that were suitably defined. Kate reportedly loved the iconic ‘Naked Palette’ by Urban Decay so much so that she allegedly told former First Lady Michelle Obama how much she rated it when she visited the UK in 2011.

In recent years, we’ve noticed that Kate no longer opts for the same smoky eye she adored in her twenties – now she’s 44, the royal sports a subtle twist on this glamorous look.

Kate has toned down her makeup look in recent years

“Over the last decade, Princess Kate’s makeup has shifted,” international makeup artist Tori Arthur tells HELLO!. “She now emphasises definition on the top lid, keeping depth above the eye instead of both under and over. As eyes naturally become smaller with age, avoiding full dark outlines prevents heaviness, as this can typically age you more than flatter you. Instead, focusing definition above the eye gives a subtle lift and keeps it effortless and flattering,” Tori notes.

It appears that Kate may have had a brow revamp, too. “I can also see her brows have softened; they are more feathered, less intense, matching a lighter hair tone,” Tori observed.

“Overall, she’s reduced contrast on her face. This ensures that her features remain defined yet not overwhelmed, creating a polished, age-appropriate elegance.”
