The Princess of Wales is known to be a major tennis fan, and on Wednesday she released a personal message to mark the achievements of Wimbledon’s breakout star, Arthur Fery.

The 23-year-old is currently the last British male player in the tournament and is a wildcard for the tournament, only having a world ranking of 114 beforehand. Following a tense match against Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, the star managed to secure his place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

After the match, Kate took to her social media pages to write: “A memorable day at @wimbledon.

“Congratulations to Arthur Fery on becoming the first British wildcard to reach the Gentleman’s Singles semi-finals in the Open Era, a fantastic achievement that has inspired so many.”

Arthur is next due to play on Friday, where the British wildcard will be taking on Germany’s Alexander Zverev.

Kate’s 2026 Wimbledon experience

The Princess of Wales regularly visits Wimbledon when the tennis tournament is on, and last week, she got heavily involved as she made her first appearance there of the year. Kate started her day at the tennis by meeting people in ‘The Queue’ who have been waiting at the iconic venue since the early hours of the morning. She was also introduced to the volunteer stewards who supervise the winding queue.

A poignant part of her visit saw the royal meet children from Shine Camera Club. The club is a creative photography programme based within the charity, SHINE Merton. It supports children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop confidence, creativity and self-expression through photography.

During her time at the tournament, she even watched Arthur in one of his earlier matches, where the Brit was able to triumph over Finland’s Otto Virtanen. She was joined in the crowd by former player Tim Henman and Deborah Jevens, the chairwoman of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Board.

The royal was later joined by tennis royalty, with Sir Andy Murray joining her in the Royal Box.
