The Princess of Wales is always the picture of poised when she’s out on her royal duties. But in a rare moment caught on camera, the royal broke her remarkable composure while attending her husband Prince William’s charity polo match this month.Â
Kate cheered her husband to victory at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor on 10 July, looking lovely for the occasion in a black and white gingham dress. While joining William and his US Association teammates on the podium to hand over the winning trophy, the Princess of Wales proved she’s always on the ball.
In a video shared by HELLO! on Instagram, the royal was briefly caught off guard when one of William’s teammates standing beside her nearly dropped the trophy after bending down to pick it up for a group photo. The cup teetered out of place for a second, but the Princess of Wales showed off her quick reaction skills, reaching out to help steady the trophy.Â
The Princess let out a good-natured laugh before quickly regaining her composure and slipping on a smile for the podium photoshoot.Â
Royal fans on HELLO!’s Instagram couldn’t help but point out that the Princess of Wales had the “reaction of a mum” who was “very quick on catching falling stuff”.Â
“The reflexes of a mum of three!!” another said, while someone else praised the royal’s “nice catch”.Â
William played four chukkas for the US Polo Association team alongside his teammates, former England captain Mark Tomlinson, US-born Saudi businessman Amr Zedan and Aiyawatt “Top” Srivaddhanaprabha, owner of Leicester City and the KingPower Polo team.
Kate’s polo style
The Princess of Wales looked gorgeous as ever for her day of polo spectating in a heatwave-approved dress by one of her favourite designers, Temperley London.Â
The midi-length dress featured a bold checkered pattern in black and white with a square neckline. The floaty frock had thin straps and a slightly flared skirt, making it ideal for wearing outdoors in the warm weather. Marvel actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s wife, Sophie Hunter, wore the same dress earlier in the week on day 9 of the 2026 Wimbledon Tennis Championships.Â
Kate styled the dress with her trademark brunette tresses out in tumbling waves and elevated the look with a pair of slingback heels.Â
