Jennifer Lopez is getting loud about her future empty nester status.
The singer got emotional when asked about her 18-year-old twins Max and Emmeâs high school graduation during her Wednesday appearance on âJimmy Kimmel Live!â
âDonât talk about it because [I] start crying,â she told host Jimmy Kimmel, noting that she will definitely shed tears at the upcoming ceremony. âIâve been crying for two months.â
Lopez said that the teenagersâ milestone moment really hit her when she wrote notes for their high school yearbook.
âWhen I tell you, the tears â it took me two days to write those things,â she recalled.
The singer, 56, also shared that her twins will be going to different colleges, a choice she is âfineâ with since she wants âthem to be happy and go where they want to go and do what they want to do.â
She added, âWeâre going to pack up their rooms here and theyâre going to take all the things that they want to take to their dorm.
âThen theyâre going to realize that their dorms are too small and theyâre going to miss home,â Lopez continued. âI hope theyâll want to come back real soon. Thatâs my plan.â
Although the actress is sad her children will be moving away, she insisted she is even happier that they are embarking on a new chapter.
âAll year people were asking me, âTheyâre going away to college, is it going to be terrible?â Iâm like, âNo. Itâs going to be great,ââ she said. âThey have big dreams itâs going to be great.â
Lopez welcomed Max and Emme in 2008 with former husband Marc Anthony. The exes were married from 2004 to 2014.
Back in February, the âHustlersâ star posted a touching tribute for her kidsâ milestone birthday.
âIt was as if God was making sure you would enter a world full of pure magic!!â she wrote via Instagram. âIn my heart, I knew thatâs how your life would always be!!â
âWhen I would hold you as infants, I honestly felt as if I were holding two angels sent straight from heaven above,â she added. âMy life was changed forever.â
She concluded, ââI love youâ could never encapsulate the depth of feeling, affection, and care that I have for you, my coconuts. It has always been the three of us!! We have been on this journey together. We have always had each other to hold on to and be that steady presence in the middle of any snowstorm. And I promise you, my beautiful coconuts, no matter how big you get, thatâs how it will always be.â
Last October, Lopez admitted she became more present in the twinsâ lives after a pivotal conversation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
âThey spoke to me, [and] theyâre like, âYouâre not a regular mom. Youâre not here every day. You donât drop us off and pick us up like the other [moms],ââ she recalled on the âHoward Stern Showâ in 2025, sharing that her kids were around the age of 10 when the talk took place.
The performer subsequently ârealized how much they needed me there.â
