Jennifer Hudson’s son is growing up fast! The EGOT winner is a doting mom to 16-year-old David Otunga Jr., whom she shares with ex-fiancé David Otunga, and who has largely been kept out of the spotlight.
However, on July 14, the teenager made a rare appearance alongside his famous mom as he joined her at the MLB All-Star Game. JHud performed at the event alongside Patti LaBelle, and she shared photos from the celebratory event on social media afterwards.
In the first picture, David featured in a group shot, beaming as he stood towering behind his mom. “We had such an amazing time at the MLB All-Star Game last night,” Jennifer wrote in the caption. “Such a beautiful way to spend the day. It was an honor to perform America the Beautiful. And then to do it alongside Mama Patti @mspattilabelle made it extra special! Thank you for having me, @mlb!!!”
David – like his mom – is a talented singer, and his mom previously revealed that he is following in her performing footsteps. Talking to Today, she described the joy of “seeing how creative he already is,” and added: “That made me more confident… He has a good ear, and he’s a little performer.”
© InstagramThe mother-son duo are primarily based in Chicago, where they live in a $3million, 12,000 square-foot property in Burr Ridge, just 17 miles from the city. The home features six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, along with two laundry rooms, a game room, an in-house screening room, and a heated garage big enough for six different cars.
During a chat with People in March, Jennifer said of her bond with her only child: “He’s 16 now, so if he comes outside with Mama, that’s a compliment in itself. They still think he’s little David, and I have to tell people, ‘Guys, this is the kid. He’s not little anymore.'”
She added that David recently praised her work after bringing him to the premiere of GOAT, in which the singer features with a voice acting role. “He was like, ‘Mama, this is a great film,'” she said. “To get the kids credibility, that’s a big deal. I’m glad that I could get cool points from my kid at this age.”
