James Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, posted a touching tribute to the late actor on the first Father’s Day since his tragic death.
Kimberly shared a carousel of photos via Instagram Sunday of the “Dawson’s Creek” alum with their six children.
“Missing you so much and thinking of how magnificent you were in every single way today. And somehow, from the other side? You continue to parent. You’re a marvel,” she captioned the emotional upload.
Several of their famous friends expressed their love and support for the family in the comments section.
“The best of the best. Happy Father’s Day, James,” Krysten Ritter wrote.
“The best of the best forever. We love you so much James. Wrapping all of your little people in the warmest hugs today, and always,” Nikki Reed penned.
His “Dawson’s Creek” co-star Mary-Margaret Humes also honored him in a Father’s Day tribute over the weekend.
James passed away on Feb. 11 after battling colorectal cancer. He was 48.
“Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,” Kimberly shared via a joint Instagram statement at the time. “He met his final days with courage, faith and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.”
The actor had been battling stage 3 cancer since August 2023.
In November 2024, he told People magazine that he was forced to reveal his diagnosis after learning “a tabloid was going to run with the news.”
That same month, he confessed that cancer treatment had put a financial strain on his family and began selling autographed “Varsity Blues” merch to help fund his care.
James also sold memorabilia from “Dawson’s Creek,” including his character Dawson Leery’s clothing and bedroom decor.
In March of that year, the “Dancing With the Stars” alum heartbreakingly admitted he “could no longer be the husband that was helpful to [his] wife” and “could no longer be a father, who could pick up his kids and put them and be there for them.”
However, Kimberly, 43, wrote in a post of her own on Instagram how much she considers her husband a “treasure” despite the shortcomings he believes he has because of his illness.
“I feel like the luckiest lady in the world to be married to you,” the film producer wrote.
James and Kimberly have been married since August 2010. They share Olivia, 15, Joshua, 14, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 10, Gwendolyn, 8, and Jeremiah, 4.
