James Van Der Beekâs widow Kimberly Van Der Beek has shared never-before-seen intimate family photos of the late actor in an emotional Fatherâs Day tribute.
The Dawsonâs Creek star died in February at the age of 48, following a battle with colorectal cancer. He is survived by Kimberly and their six children: Olivia, 15, Joshua, 14, Annabel, 12, Emilia, 10, Gwendolyn, eight and Jeremiah, four.
Kimberly took to Instagram on Sunday and shared heartwarming snaps of James with his children.
Alongside the photos, she wrote: âMissing you so much and thinking of how magnificent you were in every single way today. And somehow, from the other side? You continue to parent. Youâre a marvel.â
In one photo, James and Kimberly took their children for a boat trip, with all of them sporting life vests. Another group snap showed James in bed, surrounded by the coupleâs kids.
Kimberly also posted an adorable photo of James cradling Emilia in his arms as she sported a cowboy hat.
Another shot saw James posing with his children as they all threw their hands in the air in celebration.
Kimberly, who married James in 2010, also shared a heartwarming snap of herself with her late husband.
Prior to his relationship with business consultant Kimberly, James was married to Party of Five actress Heather McComb from 2003 until their separation in 2009.
Medical expenses
A friend of Jamesâ set up a GoFundMe page to benefit his family in the wake of extensive medical costs and living expenses during his illness.Â
While initially the goal was set to $500k, this was then extended to $2.5 million due to the sheer volume of donations, as it became obvious the world was keen to help the beloved starâs family.Â
âThroughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care,â the GoFundMe read.Â
Kimberly previously thanked the public for all the support she and her family have received during one of the hardest times of their lives â both emotionally and financially.Â
She described the outpouring of love and support from others as âtremendous,â and said she âcould have never expectedâ it.
