Today stars Dylan Dreyer and Hoda Kotb sweetly rang in the 4th of July holiday on Sunday with their families, proving that their friendship extended far beyond the screen.
Hoda, who exited the morning show in January 2025 in order to spend more time with her young daughters, Haley, nine, and Hope, seven, took to Instagram to share insight into their special day.
“Happy early 4th,” she captioned a video of their celebration, which included a shot of their kids eating together on the deck. Dylan’s three sons, Calvin, nine, Oliver, six, and Russell, four, were all smiles as they celebrated a week early and enjoyed their cookout lunch.
In a separate post, Hoda shared a snap of their day out, including their fireworks display. “Summer,” she wrote in the caption, as Dylan replied: “No better way to kick off summer!!”
Fans couldn’t get enough of the former colleagues and their close friendship, with one writing in the comment section: “You guys are the best! I love how close you are,” while another added: “I love that Dylan’s kids are celebrating with you!” and a third said: “Love that you all are actually family.”
The last two years have been ones of major upheaval for both Hoda and Dylan, after the former moved out of New York City and stepped back from the Today show to focus on her daughters and the latter split from her husband of 12 years, Brian Fichera.
© InstagramHoda shared with People that leaving the show and settling into life upstate was “super fun” and that she was enjoying the extra time with Haley and Hope. “To kind of have control of your own schedule…is real weird. I didn’t actually know how I would do,” she explained. “But something happened where like everything’s in slow motion now.”
“When I sit with my kids, it’s slow, everything’s kind of slowed down. I used to be like, ‘Shoes off. Okay, come on, we’re late.’ All I said was, ‘We’re late, eat that, go to bed,'” she continued. “Those were my phrases, and now it’s like we’re sitting, we’re breathing together – like we’re just having moments. I love the rhythm.”
© Getty ImagesAs for Dylan, the meteorologist announced that she was splitting from the father of her kids, Brian, in July 2025, and she officially filed for divorce in March 2026.
© Instagram“I think our relationship is better with us not being married,” Dylan recently explained to Parents.com. “We’re both the same people we always were, but without the things that went wrong in our relationship. And if you remove those from the relationship, there’s really nothing to fight over.”
“If you think about your friendships, you don’t really fight unless something big happens between you two. So now it’s just easy, and I want our boys to see that.” She added that splitting up was ultimately the best thing for their boys.
“I think the older generation will say ‘stay together for the kids.’ But my situation is ‘separate for the kids’ because they see us happier, they see us more light-hearted, and they see joy whenever we are there to celebrate the kids.”
