Jay Duplass is one of the more familiar faces in the cast of Prime Video’s new teen drama, Sterling Point, which features a host of burgeoning talent, including Anora actress Ella Rubin and Keen Ruffalo, the son of actor Mark Ruffalo.
Jay, 53, plays Steven, the father of adopted twins Annie and Connor, who learn they’ve inherited a cottage in Canada from their estranged grandfather Gordon. The show reunites Jay with leading star Ella, with both appearing in Netflix‘s comedy drama, The Chair.
Jay, also a filmmaker and director, has worked in the industry for years. While most of his early work took place behind-the-scenes, he made his television debut as Josh Pfefferman in the comedy-drama, Transparent. Since then, he’s appeared in The Mindy Project, Search Party, The Chair, Industry and Dying for Sex.

Jay Duplass’s famous brother Mark
Jay’s brother is fellow actor and filmmaker Mark Duplass, who is known for his roles in Good American Family and The Morning Show.
The sibling duo, who grew up in New Orleans, have worked together extensively, co-founding the production company Duplass Brothers Productions in 1996, for which they wrote and directed the films The Puffy Chair (2005), Baghead (2008), Cyrus (2010), Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011), and The Do-Deca-Pentathlon (2012). As for their small-screen projects, the pair created Togetherness and Room 104.

The pair decided to part ways as co-directors around 2014, when Mark took a step back from directing to spend more time with his family. “I decided to stop directing about 10 years ago so I could spend more time with my kids, and so I could have these wonderful partnerships with someone like [director] Mel [Eslyn],” he told Deadline in 2024. “Who’s going to work harder, and I’m not just saying this, I honestly believe is a better director than I am,” added Mark, who shares daughters Ora and Molly with his The League and The Puffy Chair co-star, Katie Aselton.
Explaining the decision to take different creative paths, Mark revealed that while it wasn’t a conscious decision, when their show Togetherness got cancelled, they “started to realize that separation could work”.
© Getty Images“And it terrified us. That’s where we are now – trying to find the balance of keeping that intimacy alive but also having space to breathe,” he told Sharp Magazine in 2018. “There’s fear and jealousy. Literally yesterday, we sat in our office and talked about it for two hours.”
Meanwhile, Jay has described their creative separation as a “conscious uncoupling”.
