Heidi Klum reflected on her marriage to Seal with a rare comment about his âbeautifulâ appearance. The supermodel opened up about the criticism her ex-husband faced over his skin during a new interview.
âWhen I was married to Seal, [people] would say, âHow can he have this horrible skin?â He has lupus, and quite frankly, I think he looks beautiful,â she told Us Weekly. âYou canât please everyone, and not everyone is going to like what you do, but you have to look in the mirror and be happy with who you are. I did find my niche, and look whoâs still here,â she added.
Seal first contracted lupus when he was just 21 years old, and suffered from a form of the disease called discoid lupus, which gets its name from the coin-shaped lesions it causes. He previously admitted that while he was self-conscious about his scars at the beginning, he then âquickly realized this body is not who we are. I got off lightly.âÂ
The German supermodel was married to the âKiss from a Roseâ hitmaker from 2005 to 2014 and the pair share four children â Leni, Henry, Â Johan, and Lou. Heidi is now married to German guitarist Tom Kaulitz but continues to amicably co-parent with Seal.Â
The musician previously opened up about their blended family. âIt can be challenging. It requires teamwork. If you are a team, if both parents are a team, then it is really easy and thatâs not a real challenge at all,â Seal told Us Weekly in 2021.
âBut you have to be a team. And if youâre not a team, then it can all fall to pieces.â

The couple, who tied the knot back in 2019, have a 16-year age difference that has frequently been met with public scrutiny. âWhen our door closes at home, I donât really care so much what happens around us,â Heidi told People. ââIâve learned things from my husband that I didnât know I was capable of doing.â
âIâm 50 and no longer 20. Iâm not a young girl who hasnât experienced anything yet or has no idea about life. Time wonât stand still for me, and Tom will never catch up with me. Iâll always be 16 years older, and Iâm aware of that,â she shared with Glamour Germany.
âMaybe it will be a problem for me in 10 yearsâ time, maybe he wonât like it then,â she remarked. âIn 20 years, Iâll be 70. I usually plan for the future â but with my husband, I live in the here and now.â
