Now that her son is 19 months old, Hailey Bieber is becoming more open about her pregnancy and childbirth experience. The Rhode founder appeared on the SHE MD with Mary Alice podcast and spoke candidly about being a first time mom.
The 29-year-old welcomed her son, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024 with her husband, Justin Bieber. Haileyâs OB/GYN Dr. ThaĂŻs Aliabadi also spoke on the show and Hailey was quizzed over whether her pregnancy was planned or a surprise.Â
âIt was a surprise,â she revealed. âShe [Dr. ThaĂŻs Aliabadi] told me this was going to happen because she was likeâŠâ
âAnd I told her like, âDonât get pregnant'â added Dr. Aliabadi.
Hailey then opened up about a reproductive medical condition she was diagnosed with prior to her pregnancy. âYeah. So I had a septum in my uterus, and Dr. A kept saying, âWell, we need to look at this and keep an eye on it before you get pregnant because it could potentially be an issue,'â she shared.
ââI donât really know. Weâve got to see. I might have to give you a small surgery for it. Not sure.â And I was like, âOkay. Well, Iâm not thinking about getting pregnant right now, so weâll just cross that bridge when we get there.â And then I magically got pregnant.â
âAnd then she calls me, and sheâs like, âIâm pregnant!â And Iâm like, âNo!'â recalled Dr. Alibadi. Haileyâs OB/GYN then explained Haileyâs condition and the risks it can cause in pregnancy. âSo uterine septum is genetic. Again, weâre born with it. So basically, imagine you have a normal-shaped uterus. But inside the cavity of the uterus, imagine this little wall that comes in, this thin wall that comes in,â they shared.
âYou can have a mild, moderate or a severe septum. Basically we measure it on ultrasound. If itâs less than 1 cm, itâs mild. If itâs 1 to 2 cm, itâs moderate. Yours was moderate. It affects 1 to 3 percent of women, and with moderate, you have a higher risk of miscarriage with the pregnancy. And so the risk for her was about maybe 25 to 40 percent risk of miscarriage. And a 10 to 20 percent risk of preterm delivery.â
Hailey then admitted that being aware of the potential risk of miscarriage was particularly daunting. âWhich I think was our bigger scare. Because we realized as the baby was growing, the septum it was, you know, expanding. Everything was opening and doing what it needed to do, luckily,â she added.
âAnd Iâll never forget, as I was telling her, âWell, these are the risks.â And she looked at me, sheâs like, âYou know what? I believe that everythingâs gonna work out fine.â Remember this? And I looked at her, and Iâm like, âI think so too,'â added Dr. Alibadi.
