Full House star Jodie Sweetin opened up about the surprising nature of residuals following her starring turn as Stephanie Tanner on the hit ’90s TV show.
The 44-year-old shared on The McBride Rewind that despite what fans may think about the success of the series, she only received one cent in her last residual check, due to the rise of streaming services.
“I got a one-cent check the other day,” she explained. “There’s no syndication anymore because it’s all in streaming. Who gets paid for that? Nobody gets paid for that.” The blonde beauty added that she used to receive larger pay packets in her youth, when the show was still syndicated, but it was never as much as people thought.
“Sure, in my 20s, there would be money, but not reliable,” she said. “You don’t know how much it’s going to be or how often they’re going to run the show. So, sometimes you’re like, ‘Oh, cool. That was nice.’ And then sometimes you’re like, ‘All right, well, there’s a nice dinner out.'”
Jodie explained that she can’t “rely” on her Full House residuals, and as a result, she doesn’t “live some extravagant life”.
“I drive my 2023 used Hyundai Sonata that I love. I rent my house. I have credit cards that are maxed out. I live a normal life,” she said. “And yeah, there are moments when you’re like, ‘This is going well.’ And there are times when you’re like, ‘I need a day job.'”
Jodie was just five when she landed the role of Stephanie on the show, which ran from 1987 to 1995. She reprised her role for the reboot, Fuller House, which aired for five seasons from 2016 to 2020.

The mother of two shared that she would be willing to return for another revival of the show, which originally starred Bob Saget, John Stamos, Candace Cameron Bure, Lori Loughlin and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. “I mean, we always joke that it’ll be Fuller Fullest House and we’ll just be ancient, and the kids will be wiping our asses,” she said on the podcast.
“I will never say never to anything. And you know, if I got to come back in another 20 years and work with these people again, who I’ve known for my entire life, yeah, I would totally do that.”
“I love what Full House has done. I love what it has created. I love what it means to people,” she continued.
“And I think as I’ve gotten to be an adult and live a little more life, I understand just how important it is to have that thing that connects you to your younger, safer self, and I know that Full House does that. So, I’m thrilled to continue to do that in whatever way I can.”
The cast reunited in 2022 following the death of Bob Saget, in a touching tribute to the late star. “It was just like it was before. It was normal. We all spent four days just constantly together after Bob passed, and it was like nothing had changed,” Jodie recalled.
