Kathy Griffin has sparked concern among fans after revealing she was hospitalized following complications from a routine colonoscopy.
The Emmy Award-winning comedian and actress, 65, shared the health update with followers on Instagram on Thursday, May 21 2026 explaining that while the procedure did not go as planned, she is now recovering at home surrounded by her beloved dogs.
āWell, the sound got screwed up, but I made this video for you guys because Iām TMI anyway,ā Kathy joked in the candid post. āI spent the night in the hospital because I had complications from my colonoscopy. I know, I know, very sexy, but I am at home now with the doggies where I belong.ā
Fans quickly flooded the comments section with messages of support and well wishes for the star.
āGlad youāre ok,ā one follower wrote, while another commented: āGurl⦠you need to write another book! Hope you have good people to take care of you! Rest and enjoy those doggies!ā
Kathy appeared to remain in good spirits despite the ordeal and responded directly to several supportive messages from fans.
āI have four, around-the-clock canine nurses,ā she joked in one reply before telling another follower: āYou know me. Iām a bouncer backer.ā
The health scare comes after several difficult years for the Suddenly Susan actress, who has been open about a number of serious personal and medical challenges.
In 2021, Griffin revealed she had been diagnosed with Stage I lung cancer and underwent surgery to remove half of her left lung. She later opened up about the emotional toll of the experience, as well as struggles with Complex PTSD and vocal cord issues.
āThe thing thatās been really kind of crazy, and kind of like a mindf**k, is that when I had cancer, I had no symptoms,ā she told People in 2023. āNow, itās like I sound and feel like I have cancer.ā
Earlier this year, Kathy also revealed she had undergone a hysterectomy due to a precancerous condition.
Despite the latest setback, the comedian is continuing to look ahead. Griffin is currently scheduled to travel across the country later this year for her upcoming New Face, New Tour, which kicks off in September 2026.
