Today star Dylan Dreyer got candid about juggling being an acclaimed journalist and career woman with raising her three young sons, whom she shares with her estranged husband, Brian Fichera.
The 44-year-old sat down on her The Parent Chat podcast with Amanda Hirsch, and delved into the reasons she felt she was living “two different lives” as a mom. Dylan compared being a working mom to living as a Severance character, in which they are surgically cut off from their personal lives when they enter their workplace, and vice versa.
“I feel like I have my life that I love. I love my job. I love coming to work. I’m not thinking about my kids,” she said on the podcast.
“And then I go home, and I love being a mom. I love being with the kids, and I’m not really thinking about work. It’s like I’m living two different lives, but they’re all cohesive.“
“I talk about my kids a lot on the show, but I really enjoy when I’m not with them as much as I enjoy being with them,” she continued. Dylan is a mom to Calvin, nine, Oliver, six, and Russell, four, and spoke honestly about her initial hesitation to have kids on Thursday’s episode.
“[I was like,] ‘I don’t really like other people’s kids.‘ So, I was like, ‘How can I be mom? I don’t know how to change diapers. I don’t know how to do this. I love my job. I like traveling. I like my money for myself,‘” she recalled. “And there was like a big part of me that didn’t ever want to become a mom.“
The meteorologist then took a moment to watch an old clip of herself talking about motherhood while pregnant with Calvin, in which she voiced similar fears about welcoming her baby.

“Here I am, about to be a new mom, and I just look scared to death,” she said as she watched the video. “I don’t even cry all that much, and here I am crying about becoming a mom.”
“You don’t have to change who you are to become a mom. You can still be you. You can still follow all of your hopes and dreams, but just add this momhood to your life resume,” she declared.
Dylan’s podcast series launched in early April and has seen the likes of Ashley Graham and Erin Andrews join her to discuss the highs and lows of parenthood.
“You know her as Today‘s candid third hour host. But Dylan Dreyer is also a mom of three boys in New York City, trying to figure out the big stuff: how to raise kind, confident, resilient kids and keep her sanity along the way,” the podcast’s description reads.
“And like every parent, sometimes she needs…HELP! On The Parent Chat, Dylan calls in reinforcements – from parenting experts with big advice to fellow working moms that can help all parents feel less alone. Because parenting doesn’t come with a manual, but it can come with a group chat.“
