Comedian Alex Duong had faith he would beat his cancer just two months before he tragically died.
Duong battled alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer affecting soft tissue, for a year before he died Saturday.
He was 42 years old.
Duongâs last Instagram post was on Jan. 28, when he shared a video of his friend asking for fans to support the comedian and actor after his cancer battle took a turn for the worse.
The friend shared, âI just found out my boy Alex, heâs been battling eye cancers, quite a while ⊠and it was going good and he recently had a seizure. And the thing with the seizure, they found out he has something in his spine, man.â
Duong heartbreakingly commented, âđđ I will walk out of here.â
On Friday, Duongâs friend Hilarie Steele shared on a GoFundMe created for the comedian and his family â his wife, Christina, and their 5-year-old daughter, Everest â that the âBlue Bloodsâ actorâs condition changed suddenly.
âHe has gone into septic shock, a severe and life-threatening infection that has overwhelmed his body,â she wrote. âHe is in the hospital, and the situation is critical. Everything has changed so quickly.â
The next day, she announced his death and said that he was âcomfortableâ and âthankfully out of pain.â
âHe was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born,â she wrote.
âWe are devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time.â
Duong had the support of fellow comedians after he was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in early 2025.
In August 2025, âThe Alex Duong Has Cancer In His Eye Comedy Benefit Showâ was held at the Largo in Los Angeles, which featured comedians like Ronnie Chieng and Andrea Jin.
Duong told the Los Angeles Times about his cancer battle last year, âComedians always have each otherâs backs when times are shât. We know how hard it is to pine and struggle and scrape by in this lifestyle, just so we can do these jokes and keep improving.â
âItâs a beautiful thing to see in this world; it really is,â he said.
