While some criticized Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert for skipping voluntary practices to support his girlfriend, Madison Beer, on tour, his head coach was just fine with it.
âI was happy he went to support Madison on her music tour,â Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters during a Wednesday, May 27, press conference. âMadison supports him at the football games. He told me he wasnât gonna be here for those two weeks and my first reaction was, âDo you need a ride to the airport?ââ
Harbaugh, 62, explained that he has practically begged Herbert, 28, to take time off.
âThereâs times Iâve wanted to shoo him out of the building,â he said. âHeâs at every voluntary, every non-voluntary workout. Same guy that broke his hand and he was here the next day practicing. The next game, stiff arming guys. So, yeah, I was happy. Happy. You know, good balance. Good balance.â
Harbaughâs support is all that should matter to Herbert, but that hasnât stopped others from weighing in. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy ripped the quarterback earlier this month for appearing in one of Beerâs music videos.
âCall me crazy but I like my coaches and QBâs concentrating on the weight room and studying game tape rather than making steamy music videos,â Portnoy, 49, wrote via X on May 8. âBut maybe thatâs why [the Patriots] have 6 rings and were in the Super Bowl last year and the Chargers canât win a playoff game.â
Herbert was back at practice on Wednesday, and the Chargersâ official X account shared a few photos of him on the field with the caption, âheâs here + heâs perfect.â
Herbert and Beer, 27, first sparked dating rumors in August 2025 when they were spotted together on the set of one of the singerâs music videos.
Weeks later, they were seen holding hands on a date night in Los Angeles. Fans got all the confirmation they needed, however, in October 2025 when cameras caught them sharing several quick kisses on the SoFi Stadium sidelines before a Chargers game.
The couple have since appeared together at the World Series, on the sidelines of NBA games and even at a Harry Styles concert.
While Herbert has been watching Beer on her European tour, she gave him a shout-out during her May 22 show in Paris, changing a line in her song âBabyâ to, âIâm the best you ever had, Justin, I can turn you on, on, on.â
